I don’t really know the rules

Was it out because his feet never touched outside the boundary whilst he had the ball in his hands.

Something like that, so basically he can keep tapping it up whilst hopping and go get himself a hot dog and still claim the catch.

Apparently 1st touch needs to be with feet inside the rope, after that they can keep the ball alive outside rope as long as feet are not on the ground.

I feel like it would be better if once their feet landed outside the rope they are out of play

Can they stand on the fence after they tap it up?
Or do a one handed cartwheel so their feet are in the air then tap it back in?

It would still give them the chance to have the 'highlight reel' of blokes flicking the ball back in for other fielders to catch it but would feel alot more within the spirit of the game.
