Agreed, Charlie is In the conversation but don't think he makes it.

Ryder clearly the AA ruckman for mine AT THIS STAGE.......

Sorry is it only South Australian clubs ruckmen that are considered?
Kruezer easily the best this year.
McEvoy was most "experts" AA ruckman at the half way point

What "experts" are these? On the couch a few weeks back it was just about unanimous for Ryder with Grundy and Jacobs mentioned next. I remember a similar conversation on league teams so I'd love to know where your "experts" are from. Channel 9 footy show maybe?

Not sure who they were, I just remember seeing a couple AA teams at the half way point with McEvoy as the ruckman, i had raised eyebrows as well, hes been ok but his ruckwork is ordinary which call me stupid but i think thats a ruckmans main role

Jarman Impey would be a shoe in for the AA team after his pre season form in Norwood and fleeing the scene.

Oh wrong AA team ;)

I think Kingy had McEvoy as the AA ruckman at halfway mark of the season. He's had a good year, but wouldn't have him ahead of Ryder or Kreuzer.

Paddy Ryder is a great player but overrated by some. Jacobs averages 6 more hitouts, more disposals and more marks per game.
Grundy averages 4 more hitouts, more marks and over 6 disposals more per game.
Martin similar.
Ryder 8th in AFL fantasy points behind 7 other ruckmen.

I know these stats aren't the be all and end all and can be misleading but he's definately not as standout as some think.

A ruckmans job is to tap the ball to his midfielder's advantage and / or win clearances.

Where is he for that stat?

I agree that its the major part of his job, unfortunately I think those stats are only released at the end of the year to my knowledge, I think Max Gawn had the most last year.

Edit: Found this from an article on June 9: AVERAGES 9.1 hitouts to advantage per game, ranked 11th

Ryder ranks 11th for average hitouts this year. (Hitouts to advantage arent readily available i dont think) edit: wedgie has said that above

found this article from back at the end of may saying port were ranked 9th in hitouts to advantage
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 9f0a9e6aeb

Kreuzer is pretty clearly the best ruck this year for mine, Grundy, McEvoy Jacobs and Ryder on the next rung down.

Dixon is 15th for goals. 8th in marks among forwards, 1st for contested marks, 7th for marks inside 50. To say he is even in the squad ahead of Cameron, Franklin, Daniher, and a few others is just silly. He has had a good season though, no doubt. but he isnt more than above average

Port supporters just frothing at the gash because they actually have a half decent ruck and a half decent forward for once

A pretty hard thing to rate, I don't think anyone could, it'd be pure guess work so I'll stick with my observations and something measurable such as stats.

then besides the vibe, why should he be the AA ruckman when the stats say he is behind a few?
