Yep whey protein is definitely a good option also having complex carbs post workout is just as good as the protein. A lot of bodybuilders buy complex carbs in a supp form and mix it with there protein shake, I just have 2 kiwi fruit after training. I have used creatine in the past but like it so stopped using it, there probably is a product right for me but just havent found it yet. BCAA are good i'm currently using Scivation xtend grape flavour and it taste like hubba bubba grape. The only other 2 things I take is a multi vitamin and fish oil. If your working out during the day or morning there is one supplement that everyone would have in there house that they should be taking and thats caffeine. But to be honest with you there's only 4 things I would say to take if you where going to be serious in the gym, Protein, Complex Carbs, Multi Vitamin and caffeine and thats probably going to cost you around $80 a month. With the Protein do your research on the net, have a look at the forum on bodybuilding.com what people are saying about the products, and the biggest one of them search about the side effects for that brand.

This is a pretty good workout plan it mixes up your workout pretty good and you definitely want to try the drop sets there a killer

As I have recently jumped on the scales and found myself to be in excess of ninety kilos, I will be withdrawing from future weigh-in's...

On the the powder, I find Chemist Warehouse to be the cheapest I can find even cheaper at their vitamin warehouse in the city. $60 odd a 2.5 kilo bucket and I go through a bucket a month

What brand protein powder are you using? I use and will only use Gaspari Nutrition MyoFushion best tasting protein powder on the market. What other supps are you using I might have a few tips to help with your fat loss if you want.

Don't use any supplements (I just eat loads  ), but am drawing a weight training program (for footy offseason) to stack on 4-5 kgs of muscle. I have low BF now anyway, but after bulking could aim for 10-12% BF.

I would only look at buying 100% whey protein to use immediately post-workout before I then get a big meal in. Would also intend on taking 5g creatine monohydrate daily during bulking phase.

Musashi sell a really good range of high protein zero carb products especially designed for muscle gain.

Worth a look and reasonably priced as well.

I have lost 9 kilos and am down to the lightest i have been in 7 years without stepping foot once in a gym.

I havent done any extra cardio work either apart from the 40 hours a week im working where i'm on my feet all the time.

Purely by changing my eating patterns and cutting out soft drink, sugar (when having coffee, tea, etc etc) everything in the house is low fat, wheat bread etc etc.

The biggest change i have made is to speed up my metabolism by making sure i eat breakfast every single day, having lots of chilli with main meals and drinking Musashi Fat Metabolism shake twice a day.

9 kilos down and 10% of my body fat percentage has been lost.

It's not zero carb it's low carb the lowest they have is 0.9g which is pretty good. Have used musashi before and the taste was very ordinary. They seem to becoming a cheap brand with most there protein product avalible in woolies and coles. They used be regarded as one of the top selling supplements in Australia but now most supplement stores don't stock it or have very little range.

Really??

Does the same go for creatine monohydrate?

Incorrect gents, you can ship most supplements from overseas. But with shipping/postage fees doesn't tend to be a worthwhile exercise.
Ebay is probably the best place to get cheap supplements. Well, that's my experience anyway. Beats going to any retail supps store in Adelaide.

I want to lose it in certain areas and gain it in others. It seems to be working so far......

FYI you cannot target fat loss in specific areas of the body. Fat loss comes as a whole. You might lose more in certain areas because you have more fat deposits there, but by thinking "I'll do 1000 situps a day and lose my gut" is incorrect. This kind of thinking is a myth and sold to the misinformed by companies who sell ab-sculptor 2000 type machines

But you're on the right track with the protein. Low carb, high protein diet is the best way to lose fat, hands down. Plus a little exercise too, naturally..

Exactly. This was explained very early on in the training program I purchased. I don't care where it disappears from as long as it goes I'm happy.

Just have made the observation that 7 weeks into training my arms are bigger and my guts is smaller. I suspect if I jump on the scales the overall weight probably hasn't changed but I hope my fat % has decreased

It is very rare that you will get protein into Australia because of the dairy, the only way it usually gets through is if they miss it. bodybuilding.com is the cheapest place to buy supplements even with the $20-$30 shipping you can find products on ebay within $10 of bodybuilding.com

Busy weekend coming up so I'll post my end of month now.
94.2 Kg - a slight downward movement, but at least it is the right direction.
I think I'm going to have to get disciplined about a fitness programme to lose much more...
[I probably ought to have a cardiac stress test first at my age..]

Started doing more weights this month. Previously I have only been doing cardio training and have noticed a big difference. Only 1.9 kgs loss, but very happy as I have been pretty lazy the last week with a fair bit of junk food and no training! If I can put in 4 solid weeks training and get a little bit more disciplined with the diet, I hope to get under the 100 mark this month!

Not going to happen!!

I started this month very well but got crook early on and didn't train for over a week. Had a bad cold and was absolutely exhausted when I got home from work so generally just flaked out. I weighed myself and had ballooned out to 105.8 mid month. Once I felt a little bit better I got back into it and clawed my fitness back. It was amazing to see how quickly it goes when you stop training...

Anyway, I had a pretty full on cardio session on wednesday and weighed myself and had got down to 102.5. I didn't train Thursday but had a big weights session with my PT yesterday. Woke up very sore and struggling to walk so I went to the gym and did some cardio today at about 75% to try to get rid of some of the soreness. Weighed myself and I am now at 103.7!!!!

I am baffled that I have put on 1.2kg in about 60 hours considering I have trained twice in that time. I haven't eaten anything too bad (ie Maccas, pizza, KFC etc) in that time. Is there any experts out there that can possibly explain this to me? Is it because of the weights?

No this would not be caused by weights, if you said in a couple of weeks it could be but not in 60hrs. What i'm guessing is that the time you are weighing yourself. Weigh yourself first thing in the mourning as soon as you get up, go to the toilet before you do and you should get a pretty good indication of where you are at, 1.2kg is only 1.2ltr of water so when you think about it's pretty easy to get different weights if your weighing yourself at different times of the day. Are you doing cardio when you are doing weights, try doing 20mins of light cardio then no longer then 1hr of weights and then 20 mins of flat out cardio. And remember on every last rep of the last set you should fail, if you don't fail you are not lifting heavy enough.
