Wow thanks Spelly...I love most kinds of history so definitely like the idea of doing one of those.

Also on an historical theme...anyone know if the RM Williams Outback Heritage Museum in Prospect is worth a look??? There's an advert for it in an Adelaide Guide booklet that FC sent me. Having been daughter of a farmer...one who even spent a couple of years working on a farm in NSW in the early 50's (him, not me)...it sounds like something that I might find interesting.

Don't you call me 'wombat' I'm not short and fat with a hairy nose...ok I'm not short...well not as short as Kylie Called the trip Op Wombat cos given my past life it had to have a military sounding name and the hairy-nosed wombat is your State emblem (fauna) and it's one of the animals I want to meet on a behind the scenes tour of the zoo it's also a bit of fun for the godbrats to have a name for it.

Sorry but the camping is a dead cert 'no' due to too many family holidays from hell. I don't drive but will probably try to fit in Glenelg and a few other places that are easy to reach by bus or train. Won't be doing anywhere that would involve more flying though...will already have taken me a train and at least 3 possibly 4 flights to get to Adelaide and the same to get home. The Flinders and Mt Gambier trips are the suggestion of my 'tour manager' who has a car and will be rewarded with her own weight in Tunnocks dark choc waffers

You've added few potential names to the list but don't 'push the State' too much until I've got a deal on a hotel...don't want you suddenly becoming too popular and pushing up the prices

OK as it's first thing in the morning here and I'm a lazy cow here's the potted bio from '08 What I don't think I mentioned back then is that I was born in England to an Irish mother and an English (and part German) father and I live in Scotland as that's were I ended up after nearly 23 years in the RAF.

I am sure you have answered this before JAS, but why is it that you have so much interest in little old Adelaide and the SANFL and Norwood?

No great secret...just not terribley exciting so I'l try and keep it short(ish)

Always had a few tenous links to Aus. Dad spent several years living and working in NSW/Vic border area in the 50's and wanted to return with us for good in the 70's but mum said no. One of my best mates married an Aussie and they and my goddaughter live near Brisbane and my step-mothers brother lives in Melbourne.

I got a liking for online rpg's a few years ago and through that got chatting to some Aussies. We mostly talked sports...me rugby union and them footy and cricket. I liked the sound of the footy and remembered watching it on tv with dad as a kid on the rare occasions it got shown. One of them suggested that I should take a look at the Redlegs website and forum etc to learn more about it.

Eventually I was persuaded to join the forum and everyone, without exception, has been incredibly tolerant and patient as I try to learn more about the game. Same applies here when I joined SAFooty during the 'Great Server Crash'. Wasn't always easy to understand what was going on when I only got to hear and not see games so they put up with lots of questions...much better now I have Redlegstv (plug :wink: ) Listening to the comentaries on RPH and LifeFM I got totally hooked and signed up as a Redleg.

I know that not having grown up supporting a team I'll never have the same sense of history etc (a bit like living here for 17yrs but always being an incomer) so I'll always be a 'work in pogress' but I is learnin'. But then no matter how hard BDP tries I'll never jump ship...never have, never will (sorry boys you're stuck with me now)...and why would I when they wear the same colours as my beloved Munster

Might as well take the opportunity to say thanks to the guys and gals on the Redlegs forum and on here that I've spoken to and interrogated both in private and in public for their tolerance and patience and willingness to answer even the most basic footy questions

Should add that since then the guys over on the Legs forum have continued to amaze with their generosity by sending me games on dvd and memorabilia etc...couldn't have wished to be adopted into a better footy family

Probably going to be over for about 2 weeks and cos it's gonna take me nearly 3 days to get there (I have to spend nearly a day just getting to London) I'd like to try and make it worthwhile by seeing 2 League and 2 Ressie games and maybe the U18's as well. Hopefully one might be against Port...would be nice to see a little tear of defeat trickle down your cheek

Don't worry you won't be stuck with me for the long term...not unless I win the Lottery or Australia suddenly has a desperate need for an old Corporal logistics specialist. Give me a shout, though, if you plan invading another country....or Vic...or they invade you

I'm more than happy following the Redlegs and the SANFL

I think British Eurosport shows an AFL game here each week but I don't have satellite tv so can't get that...although I did get a mate to let me stay over and watch a Crows game in about '06 as a way of putting into practice what everyone had explained to me so far. Being from a rugby background things like your ruck took some getting used to...to me it was a contest for the ball on the ground.

I did try following some games via the AFL gameday thingy but it's so annoying cos the stream drops out every couple of minutes and they're graphics stuff is several minutes behind the commentary and I'm afraid your fishing chap, Rex Hunt, and his mates drove me nuts with all his shreeking etc. and put me off AFL completely.

Yeh it's on the list of things to look up but I think the fates might be out to test me on that. I want to do the trip for my 50th which is the Mayday bank holiday weekend and Easter is so late it's the same weekend as ANZAC Day

England average 11 - 27th Apr (varies between councils and schools)
Scotland average 1 - 18th Apr (ditto)

...and I want to travel out in the last week of April.

Thanks R&B...the Fleurieu and Victor are certainly on the cards (that might even be the home-cooked roast day. I think that's near McLaren) although not the driving on beaches part...sorry but I live by the sea and couldn't be more against that.

Thanks for the offers Psyber, very kind, but the zoo is already included on the 5-in1 pass which I'm getting anyway and the behind the scenes tour is my birhtday pressie. I have the transport side fairly well sorted out thanks to my brilliant 'tour manager' and a couple of others and I also like to include some sightseeing on my own. I'm sure we'll get to meet at the footy though cos those games will be carved in stone as it's the whole point of the trip. I'll be the uber pale one standing with the MONSFAW gang
