I'd rather mow every week and not change the height setting and take 40 minutes than mow once a fortnight and have to wrestle through longer grass and take over an hour.Brodlach wrote:I mow weekly, I did think about skipping this week and I’m glad I didn’t. I also rate paying extra to council and having two green bins. Worth it.

Re: In the Garden
That’s my thought too
I just didn’t think it had grown much this week, I was wrong. Our neighbors also have giant gum trees so the nuts, leaves and sticks need to be cleaned up often. We get afternoon gully winds

Picked my first beans this morning. Still picking sugar snap peas from a second planting.
Tomatoes have some flowers as do the capsicums. Sweetcorn slowish. Cucumbers very slow.

Re: In the Garden
Anyone else mow yesterday afternoon? Boy was it a tough slog. Grass so thick and so humid.

Bung knee so drew on the kids* to mow last week, which they did, will need one in the next 4 or 5 days though.Brodlach wrote:Anyone else mow yesterday afternoon? Boy was it a tough slog. Grass so thick and so humid.
What I do need to do is get the poison out as there's still some winter weeds making a nuisance of themselves around the yard and doing so pretty quickly!

Re: In the Garden
Got my sprayer out this morning, no concentrate left so a trip to Bunnings. Load up, get half way round and realise the sprayer is cracked on the bottom and leaving a solid trail behind me. Interesting patterns to emerge in the grass i suspect.Booney wrote: What I do need to do is get the poison out as there's still some winter weeds making a nuisance of themselves around the yard and doing so pretty quickly!

Mowed Wednesday after work, spread some worm (s)hit fertilizer over the lawns and some slow release fertilizer on the tomatoes and corn.
Chuck it down huey!

Re: In the Garden
Planted the second wave of tomatoes yesterday, threw in some Thai Basil as companions and Bunnings had various chilli's on sale for $4 a seedling so put two of them in for fun, one was a 3/10 on the hot scale and one 6/10 which, while too much for me will be perfect for the lad as he loves that sort of thing.
I've seriously never had corn going as well as this lot is, I think the down pours we have had in recent weeks while not a lot in totality but the fact we've had a few days of solid showers kicked them off perfectly, they are thriving.

Re: In the Garden
I tried transplanting one of my tomato plants last week but he looks as though he's not gonna pull through, I shall rip him out on the weekend and chuck a newbie in the pot.Booney wrote:Planted the second wave of tomatoes yesterday, threw in some Thai Basil as companions and Bunnings had various chilli's on sale for $4 a seedling so put two of them in for fun, one was a 3/10 on the hot scale and one 6/10 which, while too much for me will be perfect for the lad as he loves that sort of thing.

I've learnt to not be so ridiculous with the cucumbers, I've gotta keep telling myself that it's not the size that matters.

Re: In the Garden
My tomatoes are odd, bushes nowhere near as tall as usual but so much fruit on them.
We’ve had the same chilli bush growing for 4 years, about loaded with fruit
