For the fifth time though the best team that handled the conditions best, particularly yesterday, won

Re: The Ashes 25/26
I think there is something in this. There has always been challenging wickets but there was also an element of patience associated with test cricket. Players valued their wicket and battled through. It was part of the contest. With batters now having the T20 mindset it’s become attack at all costs to the point of throwing away their wicket as opposed to occupying the crease for a lengthy period of timemighty_tiger_79 wrote:The pitch was fine.
Batsmen need to learn how to be a little more disciplined.
The next 3 days the current squad need to just watch how players like AB would absorb time and balls. Make the bowlers earn the wicket not just throw it away like a $1 temu gift.

Spot on.
But no, we cant blame the precious players it must be the curators fault.
And everyone else complaining about the pitch have all been sucked in by the T20 bollocks

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Do the Aus players only get paid 2/5 of their wages?
If I did a project at work in 2/5 of the time and stuffed it up I wouldn’t get paid my full amount

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Absolutely batting techniques got exposed over the previous two days and the POMs played better than us
However in the last 24 hrs when former English players, current English players and now even the curator have said the pitch was poor and not up to standard that tell you why @Booney is now no longer controlling what he wants to do today. And yeah as one of the major test playing nations we are currently copping our fair whack for preparing a sub standard pitch in the same way we’ve been guilty of criticising sub continent countries.
If anyone thinks the pitch isn’t the biggest contributing factor (not the only one) but they root cause in this test only lasting 2 days well,
Welcome to this game called cricket that was first played in Northern France over 800 years ago that we generally go all right at

Re: The Ashes 25/26
I don't know how bonus payments are structured and whether there even exists a 'match fee' these days, but the centrally-contracted players would all receive their usual base salary instalment.
Docking payments - which is generally off the table for employers of salaried employees, at least, in Australia (and ordinary jobs aren't really a great comparison) - opens up a can of worms and in any event the remuneration structures for professional cricketers (rightly) incentivise strong performances over the long term.

Australian cricketers generally get their full match payments even if a game finishes early or is washed out,

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Has definitely been a trend in recent years in the Shield comp to get results given the points structure.mal wrote:QUESTION
Is it a trend to produce 'result' pitches to earn enough wins/points to play off in Test Championships ?
I believe there was a conscious effort by Curators Australia wide about 10 - 12 years ago to leave more grass on the pitches with the theory that it actually helped spinners as well as pace bowlers. Not exactly convinced by that theory

The curator actually thought he had prepared a decent pitch, he couldn't work out the carnage of day one.jackpot jim wrote:Has definitely been a trend in recent years in the Shield comp to get results given the points structure.mal wrote:QUESTION

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Jesus, reading the last few pages on here and the pitchforks certainly come out after losing a test.
Things to consider:
England aren't as bad as we made them out to be, we were lucky in Perth and didn't exactly demolish them in Adelaide.
We're missing 3 out of the 4 bowlers who have carried the side for a long time.
We have our most prolific middle order batter opening beacuse we have no solution up there and our opener is batting in the middle order beacuse he was so horribly out of form (but yet we shuffle around a 38 year old with a bad back to keep him in the side).
We are trying to pump games into Green as he has been earmarked as the future, even ahead of Webster who in my opnion is far better than Green at this point of time.
We've had 3 batters with a pass mark, you could say that STARc gets a pass mark with the bat too.
We're downhill skiers, we've had 3 consistent perfomers who won the series for us.
I can accept a loss, especially if I feel that we're heading in a direction, we ask for change and we're seeing some, some have worked, some haven't and some will take time. I don't mind losing a battle here and there as long as we win the war...............which we did.

Re: The Ashes 25/26
We're in a time where we are lucky that other nations are weaker than we are, there is Kallis, ABDV, Tendulkar, Ponting, Lara, Hayden like players getting around at the moment. To think Joe Root is still ranked #1, Head and Smith equal 3rd and Carey 9th says something about the standard getting around. the players listed have had a good year, not spectactular.gadj1976 wrote:Yep, hence why we're a good side but not a great sidemighty_tiger_79 wrote:Also Australia record in dead rubbers is poor

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Agree with many of LM's points but labelling Australia downhill skiers is a bit harsh IMO. We've stood up pretty well when the going gets tough recently, well at least compared to our opponents.

Re: The Ashes 25/26
We rely far too much on Smith, Head, Cummins, Starc and a lesser extent Lyon
Smith, Starc and Lyon don’t have much cricket left in them plus Uzzie and Boland are near the end also
Need to get a Konstas or McSweeney in the lineup before the mentioned above retire
Maybe Renshaw needs to come in to open with Weatherald and push Head back down the order again
Surely this will be Uzzie’s farewell game
I’m playing Webster before Green in Sydney also
