Also see that Tom Roberts who coached Mitchell Park A's in 2016 has got the job as B grade coach. Great appointment.
Why didn't Mitchell Park fight hard to keep him then??
He resigned to try and develop his coaching craft at a higher level. They did try but his mind was made up. He lives 1 kilometre from Smosh so it's a perfect fit. Good luck to them, they've picked up a gem.
As someone mentioned, my frustration is not so much that scholarship players are 0 pointers, but that they recruit the best talent by effectively paying massive amounts to them/their families. Would seem outrageous (and rightfully so) for a junior football club to pay junior players, but this is normal in the private school world.
It's annoying that the big private schools have access to so many juniors/students and have to do very little to attract them to their clubs vs a community club (they also have to do way less to run their clubs often, not having to worry about ovals, facilities etc which are taken care of by the school), but that's just reality.
We do have a foot in both school and junior camps, but we absolutely have genuine connections with both groups. If you think that's unfair, we would love to have the rules as North East clubs and have unlimited junior numbers, have multiple teams per grade, more junior rego fees, which would help us sustain an U18s side and therefore a greater pool of senior players.
The argument whether the socialist route is the right.... Glenunga and CLG now have thriving junior programs, which is absolutely, most significantly due to this 1 team per age rule. If this was not the case Unley, Goodwood and Mitcham would all have multiple sides in each grade and those two clubs would still be struggling big time. BUT, has it reduced total numbers of participation? Maybe. Which is better 3 clubs with 2 teams each or 5 clubs with 1 team and more even competition? I think the answer is probably somewhere between relaxing the SANFL socialist rules and tightening the rules in the North East.
I'm not sure your assessment of CLG is right jetters, 90% of our juniors come through our Auskick program, which once again was nominated for awards this year and numbers wise one of the biggest in Adelaide. Colonel light gardens is an area with huge growth amongst young families. We run a terrific junior program with senior players coaching our under 10s, 12s and 13s. We are very excited about the prospect of introducing under 18s next season too.

Also, the idea that there are NEMJFA clubs not fielding sides in age groups where other clubs have two is a myth. In the Age groups where all the bigger clubs have two sides 99% of clubs are represented.
Come 15s and 16s the numbers thin out. But it's exceedingly rare for any club to field two sides in these age groups
In thinking about junior football it's important not to lose sight of the ultimate objective being getting kids playing football.
If every NEMJFA club could only field one under 13 side the great winners would be the North Adelaide Rockets and Norwood Flames
Sorry to monopolize this thread but Jetters point is where the SANFL fundamentally doesn't get it.
If PNU was limited to one side an age group (if the Payneham and Norwood Union football clubs didn't de-merge for the purposes of the rule which they would) our parents would look to put their kids at Walkerville, Hectorville, Broadview, Glenunga and Unley. Geographically similar clubs with similar values.
These clubs are already full. In some cases also full with a second team.
All this will result in is kids not playing football.

Yes I did TT but club decided to get a new footbAll director in from the outside, and basically from my understanding he endorsed the new coach. Although very disappointed the decision was made and that's that, you move on and hope something else pops up,Good luck to the smosh players next year great bunch of lads.
Didn't Trent Payne win the B / Fairest this year, is he staying around or leaving now his dad isn't coaching.

Trent has signed at Williston FC
How many clubs has Trent been at now?
Obviously there's some extenuating circumstances with his Old Man but it feels like a fair few?
Anyone volunteering to go the up the Highway Leagues is pretty brave given the Country Leagues aren't following through on reducing TPPS to $3,000 anytime soon meaning the C9AFL will likely start restricting transfers back in from those leagues.
Youre assuming they would ever want to go back? Why would you, the money's better in the country, the atmosphere is 1000 times better with the footy and netball. Spectators pay to watch local footy so that extra revenue should be spent over and above the SAAFL clubs salary cap.

Looking at the clearances every year it seems very safe to assume that some players will ultimately wish to come back

SMOSH Elizabeth The Lodge Eastern Park
Yes, his dad is undoubtably a factor but who could blame either party?
Carey knows what he is getting, Trent knows what is expected of him and they get to have father and son time which I'm sure we'd all like more of.
Yeah it has been great getting to coach my son but it's now time for him to get off the boob and do what he thinks is right by his partner and his young son his partner is a player/coach at netball for Williston so this just fits.she rarely gets to see him play and he never see's his son on sat.So this is the choice his chosen and good luck to him.

I'm sure he'll love it out there, a few heads that he already knows.
