Re: wubsy's Sydney thread
Dear Members,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write to you as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney Swans.
The Sydney Swans is a club I have long admired from afar, for its on-field excellence and for being bold by having the courage to stand up in the big moments off the field.
As a club that is seen as an industry and community leader, it is an honour to lead it into the next chapter of a proud history spanning more than 150 years.
The Sydney Swans is more than just a football club; we are a community bound by shared passion, resilience, and a belief that has been there since the club was founded in South Melbourne in 1874.
Our members are the beating heart of that community. Your unwavering support and loyalty through every high and low, has built much of our success as it stands today. As I step into this role, my commitment is to ensure that your connection, as part of our red and white family, grows even stronger.
As a leader, I am deeply committed to creating an environment for our athletes to thrive, including nurturing the next generation coming through our QBE Sydney Swans Academy. The club is renowned for sustained success, and my goal is to build on that culture of high performance. Equally, I want our club to remain a leader in inclusivity, community outreach, and sustainability – values that reflect the best of Sydney and the spirit of Australian football.
It has been a baptism of fire over the past few weeks, with the AFL Trade period proving a busy and emotional time for the club.
We farewelled two much-loved Life Members in Ollie Florent and Will Hayward, who both fittingly finish their careers with us on 184 games after being drafted together in 2016. Both players have been valued contributors and popular members of our team. We wish them both all the very best for the future – they will always be part of the fabric of our club.
We also welcomed Charlie Curnow, Jai Serong and Malcom Rosas Jnr to our football program, who we are all excited to have with us for the 2026 season and beyond. We have no doubt these players will help strengthen our men’s football program and we look forward to seeing them commence with the team when they return for the start of the pre-season next month.
Over the coming weeks my focus is on assisting the AFLW program, as we are hopeful of reaching a second finals campaign. To everyone who has turned out to support the team so far this season, I extend a heartfelt thank you. It has been wonderful to see the hill at Henson Park become a sea of red and white. We would love to see plenty of you make the trip to Coffs Harbour for our final home-and-away game against Essendon this Saturday, November 1.
I look forward to meeting you at games, events, and member forums over the months ahead. Your feedback and passion inspire us to aim higher, and together we can ensure the Swans continue to soar – both on the field and in our community.
Thank you for your loyalty and belief. The best is yet to come for the red and white.
Cheer, cheer!

Good to see Mr Consistent maintaining his role as a non-scoring tall forward.woodublieve12 wrote:Some useless stats from yesterdays practice match.

Re: wubsy's Sydney thread
Drowned the Giants
It's hard to take a lot from conditions like those and as much as there has been talk of a new high speed game plan, there has also been a focus on doing the little things. That's a focus that came to the fore in this week's game.
It started with Gus Sheldrick who in the first 1/4 was intrusted with attending the most centre bounces for the team in the opening term. He repaid the faith by having 11 disposals, 4 of them contested, 8 of them kicks, 4 of them inside 50, 2 score involvements, 1 goal assist, 282 metres gained and a goal of his own all in that first quarter. Conditions suited him perfectly and although he had a fair few turnovers by the end of the day, was very impressed and he had a equal game high contested possession tally of 12 tied with Rowy & Oliver.
Grundy looked superb and played a huge part in us dominating clearances early leading 14 to 8 and scoring 2 goals to none from stoppages in the 1st quarter also. His domination continued having 12 hit outs to advantage compared to their 6. Again, playing a huge part in us having 4 goals from forward 50 stoppages to there one.
Grundy's dominance combined with our overall hardness lead to us having 16 more post clearance contested possessions and 7 more hard ball gets.
11 marks inside 50 compared to them only getting 4 was very impressive also especially considering the conditions. Amartey the only player to take multiple contested marks for the day with 3 of the 11 taken for the entire day.
Captain Callum showed plenty with his 9 intercept possessions & 11 contested from only 64% time on ground.
I thought Serong impressed also, playing a lot on the wing and forward flank. Ending up having 18 touches, 9 of them contested going at an impressive 83% considering the conditions. 5 intercept possessions, 4 marks, 3 score involvements, 3 inside 50s and 2 clearances. Turning in a performance that could put pressure on both Lloyd who was rested and Campbell who woke up with soreness in his shin according to reporter Mckirdy.
Even though it was only a practice match, we only scored over 100 points twice last year vs the Eagles and North. So kicking 97 in those conditions was very heartening indeed!
