It makes it easier to find people talking about the same thing. So on Twitter, if I searched #boobies for example, it would bring up every tweet that contains the same hashtag. Usually convos or pics concerning boobies.

Eg. Last night I tried to log onto GTA Online, which got released at 8.30pm, and it was dropping out. So I went on Twitter, searched #GTAOnline, and boom! Every one in the world talking about it. Found out what I needed to know instantly.

Cos they are idiots

Hashtags are basically search terms.

If you were watching the finals recently, you could tweet with the tag #AFLFinals for example, and all those would be grouped if you searched.

People decide to take hashtags and use it as a cheap way to make a point.

Remove the hashtag and put *cough* at the start and *cough* at the end.
Would make more sense to what they are trying to do

I think it works on Facebook too now. I only hashtag when Im taking the piss. And I only check twitter when I need info on the NFL or video games. I dont talk to people I actually know on Twitter.

I think it works on Facebook too now. I only hashtag when Im taking the piss. And I only check twitter when I need info on the NFL or video games. I dont talk to people I actually know on Twitter.

Usually banter between mates for me.... use it mainly for news snippets and venting ones spleen when something gets my goat

Fox Sports posts bout Lleyton losing, and use the tag #tennis so it will appear in all lists or searches for tennis related things.

Brenton Phillips comments on players at the Draft Combine, using #AFLCombine so that all related tweets can be found

Kristy Forster mentions news about the SANFL GF and uses the tag ... that's right ... #SANFLGF (and #SANFL)

Feeds can be setup that show tweets that mention certain tags, and used for a quasi-live update from events or happenings.

Well, you can link your Facebook to your tweeter account so that when you post on Facebook it also appears as a tweet in your tweeter feed and vice versa, so that is one reason you see them in Facebook.
