Re: Grade Cricket
Logan and Patel are fighting for next cab off the rank if Andrews and Zampa aren't playing. Both are the same age and have been in the right squads. Cormack is younger and an offie, probably isn't ready to make the step up for another 3-4 years from what people say. Ziggy is too old, Nottle hasn't turned a ball in his life, the others are all too young to tell yet. Logan and Patel are apparently in the top 6 or 7 for their age nation wide. They're the non contracted spinners, along with Cormack, to play in the futures league over the past few years.
Where will the movement be with the contracted list? Zampa and Richardson on CA contracts maybe? Who would fill the gaps?

Dan Cullen was quizzed on radio during the Shield Final about SA's spin stocks. He rated Zampa, Andrews & Joraslafsky as his best prospects. One of each sort there.

Re: Grade Cricket
Ben Horne from the Daily Telegraph is reporting that Zampa is very much in the frame for a Cricket Australia contract as Australia's number 1 White Ball spinner. List is to be released tomorrow
The need for the Redbacks to fast track development or recruit a 2nd spinner has just increased.

Re: Grade Cricket
So I'll fess up. I'm tied up with Southern. I just don't get how underated Tommy J is.
Over 120 A grade wickets and still in his early 20s.
2 of the 3 years of Premier League he has been the leading spin wicket taker.
Serious cricketers rate him. Southern's coach of a couple of years ago was told by an Eastern side they only planned for "Tom the Pole"
"Teflon Tim" seems to be the problem. Fobbed TJ off for 2 years with "We've got Botha" and then Cricket Australia "Want let arm spinners".
Saw him mow down Sturt with a 5 fa in the semi final. We love him.

Has Joraslofsky played a Future's Game? Rate him highly.
Don't rate Logan. Too slow through the air, bowls too much loose stuff.

This has been the first year his bowling has been really prominent. He's an outstanding fielder too. Interesting if Zampa is unavailable for Matador (not sure what Aus program is)

Joraslafsky had one crack as far as I know at Futures due to Uni commitments, 3 fa v Victoria including Maxwell.

Re: Grade Cricket
Apologies for changing the topic again but WT is due to make some significant announcements tomorrow night re: coaches for next season - should there be a club to coach.
These will be great appointments for the club and will go a long way to keeping players on board, given the club is well aware that other clubs have been unscrupulously targeting their players before it is even gone.
It is disappointing the lack of respect shown by other clubs and those approaching the WT players (and presumably Port players also) may want to keep in mind that regardless of the outcome of this decision, a cashed-up and merged club may seem very attractive to their players. And should one or both clubs survive this, no other club will be safe in a what is sure to be an ongoing SACA restructure of Premier Cricket and their lack of decorum now may come back to bite them.

Totally agree Abber. Our players at WT rate Tom the best in the comp.
Unfortunately Tim Nielsen has all the say, and if you are not one of his favourites you don't get a look in. He will continue to take wickets and force them to give him a chance.
They seem to like Cormack, but never seems to do much in A Grade, one of those blessed ones. Still few years away at least, not a patch on Tom J!

There is a reason for that as someone higher up in Cricket Australia rates him....... Now out of the Underage setups so now needs to knuckle down and produce the goods in First Grade.
Andrews 21 years and Cormack will be 19 in the middle of this year.
Will be interesting to see how MC goes at this new 'Draft Combine' they have proposed for all sides to look at them and potentially sign up......
Surely NSW will find a spot for Jason Sangha still only 17 next season......otherwise he could end up in Tasmania.

Just guessing here.

Tommy J is a star. He's made us look silly on a number of occasions. I thought he would have been given more of an opportunity than what he has received so far. His numbers certainly stack up against the guys who are given higher honor.

CA want left arm spinners... except at test level!
One thing that may have counted against TJ previously was that Bice was regarded as a poor wicket. Low, slow, dusty - good for spinners and pop gun medium pacers. No longer the case. I hear it's a very good wicket now.

Wouldn't clubs just be doing their due diligence? You'd be a pretty poorly run club if you weren't trying to get the best available players to play for you. It just so happens that with a club getting flicked there is more than 1 or 2 from a single club being spoken to, as well as the usual one or two floating around other clubs. Expecting clubs to lie down and wait for the dust to settle is ignorant.
I've heard of WT players being spoken to about moving, should there be a merger, before the merger business reared its head. Nothing wrong with planting the seed.

On Tom J, he's not good enough of an all round player to get a crack at higher honours. Batting is sub-par for a shield no.10, can't really field well and that is one of Siddons' big criteria. Andrews has made hundreds at Premier League and Grade level, Patel has made gave saving 70's at the end of the order and IMO is why he is probably edging our Logan at the moment as next in line. Cormack has shows signs with the bat, but his bowling lacks bite so far, and for a kid getting a good go he doesn't look to have the swagger or confidence to get on top of teams like a Head or Page Jnr. has in the past.

WT should not throw stones when it comes to trying to poach players. If they had never recruited of other sides then they would have a case. Also I think you will find the few WT players with value have put out 'feelers' to certain clubs and this happened well before the season started.
As said above, a club isnt doing its duty if it doesnt approach players to improve their squade/side/club. Yes the circumstances for Port and WT are different currently but id suggest a few WT players would be on the move should they still remain as a stand alone club. Port have no right to complain about poaching when you look at the make up of their A grade squad

Re: Grade Cricket
With the Redbacks doing better this season in one day and Shield cricket and some more local players getting opportunities and doing well, how does this reflect on Premier League?
Has it been a good thing for SA cricket? Does it get more players noticed and/or exposed to a higher level? Is it irrelevant and the Redbacks improved performances are coincidental?
I'm pretty sure the three year trial is finished. Do people think it will be around in the future?

When was the last time you spoke to your clubs committee Tony?
Going for another 3 years but with some changes....my guess NT and PNG are out and it will be re-branded to avoid confusion with Premier Cricket.

Not sure who WT have poached Footy Smart?? We made a decision to give our juniors a go, no point in winning 19 Junior premierships over 10 years if you are not going to try and get them to play A Grade.
Our team last year was made up of mostly of players that had come thru our junior program.
TTG do it well, they target what they need, at least three at a minimum in the losing Grand Final team were from other Clubs, in Page, Hutchinson and Borgas.
