None, but they throw it backwards and stick their heads up each others arses, fancy those rules coming in too?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

Im not a fan of the OOB rule as it will lead to congestion in the middle. Rotation cap doesnt bother me

Re: Rule Changes for 2016
Is there any other sport in the world that continually changes both major on-field and administrative (salary cap, free agency etc) rules as often as Aussies Rules does with the AFL and state leagues being the main culprits
Geez for a sport that aussies will tell you to your blue in the face is the greatest game in the world needs a lot of ******* changes apparently.
No wonder fans and players are slowly heading back to their amatuer clubs where the game still resembles what was once the great spectacle of an aussie rules game

would have thought the off field stuff wouldnt be too out of the ordinary for a code that is still in its infancy with regards to full professionalism, but yes, they do seem to change the rules an awful lot.
disagree with the last bit about the local clubs though - each to their own, some of us still love the AFL

They still won't get penalised for deliberate, or anything else... as long as they don't take clean possession and so don't handball or kick.Wedgie wrote:You forgot about the fourth and probably most important point Simon.
That player who deliberately sends the ball out of bounds via hand or foot and does not get penalized for deliberate.
Changes a grey area when the umps had to guess a players intention into a black and white rule.
It'll make the game more old fashioned with contests up and down the corridors with more speedy play on the outside.
Can't wait!
How long do you reckon it will take coaches and players to twig to the 'if you're under any kind of heat within 10 metres of the boundary line, tap the footy along or grubber it parallel to the line towards the next contest, but under no circumstances take clean possession' policy that this rule encourages? As this kind of free will be especially murderous in defence, the SANFL is cultivating a whole competition of defenders who just can't manage to pick up the footy when anywhere near the boundary. This will, of course, make the game more attractive to watch. I can't wait!

Re: Rule Changes for 2016
I don't like either of the changes.
I don't like the league telling clubs and coaches how to carry out their matchday plans. How does capping interchanges improve the game/spectacle? Where does it end? Do we punish any new tactics?
But I really detest the out of bounds rule. It's been compared to kids footy, and with good reason. One can only hope it is a trial for the afl, because if it's not, we should be horrified that our league thought this was a good idea. And petrified they've decided to implement it.

Re: Rule Changes for 2016
Adelaide spokesman Ian Shuttleworth said the Crows were “supportive of the changes”.
“The changes will lead to the players spending more time on the ground which will be a great test, especially for our players who are part of an elite program.”

Its not scenario that worries me, its the guys that hand pass it or dribble it out of bounds deliberately that usually don't get pinged.
And according to most people against the change there will be no congestion near the boundaries as it will all be down the middle so your example is irrelevent.
They should make even more changes, anything that irks the AFL sides in the SANFL is a bonus!
Keep em coming SANFL. No AFL in SANFL.

On the contrary, if it is a trial for that eastern league then we should be horrified that Our League thought it a good idea.
Bring back the Escort Cup. Let new rules be trialled in a pre-season comp where they won't taint the premiership.

Maybe the game progresses with time, tactics, player skill and fitness levels etc.
It would be like, I dunno, teams scoring at least once a game in soccer, they'd change the rules if scoring got out of hand!

Both rules are there to stop throw ins and increase scoring. If it stops the current boring defensive crap then it is a great thing.

But it isn't, the AFL hate the fact we run different rules to them, they'd love to take over the rules for the entire game.
It was decided upon by South Aussies. The AFL could trial new rules on a whim in their Under 18s or VFL.
**** 'em and good on the rules committee.
