The Commentary is ridiculously bad every game. They absolutely love ‘The Stars’ of AFLW, that Fredrick chick from Collingwood has had 4 kicks for the whole season and they bang on about her. My god.

I have no idea how they’ll do it, but they must increase the scoring in AFLW.

It’s a Crows v Melbourne GF for mine.

The only 2 sides that can have fluent link up play with actual drop punts with a level of skill.

And Freo.

Carlton didn't have any forward line, and Adelaide killed us on the flipside.

If Freo v North Melbourne is anything to go by, the women's game has regressed. Two of the better sides and they could barely hit a target or even pick up the ball. It's like kids league where everybody gets drawn into the contest so there isn't any room to do anything, a sheppard is a rare but much needed event.

Last year the top sides were good to watch but this year I've opted for women's cricket instead.

I’ve watched a fair bit and they have improved a fair bit. Their marking and gameplay is far better, kicks are getting longer but their game awareness has a long way to go. They panic with the footy too much.

Ratings are down, no crowds and they're pleading to be full time athletes? I'm sure the guys running around in Amateurs would like to be full time as well, playing at a better standard, but they get no golden ticket.

AFL devised the plan to rip the heart out of Netball Australia. Job done now send them all back to suburban footy.

The standard has clearly dropped and they're brining in 4 more sides next year. Good idea.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

The AFL wouldn't be measuring the comps success purely on the crowds and quality of football.

You can guarantee they are looking at the AFL mens comp and taking the figures of women memberships, womens attendances to those games, womens merchandise bought etc etc.

Womens AFL was almost more about capturing the remaining demographic they didn't have in this country vs providing equal oppurtunity.

Providing more females are attending AFL games on a weekly basis they will keep pumping money into the AFLW comp.

I remember listening to the Adelaide Strikers marketing manager when the BBL first launched at a state conference. She went into depth about the BBL being aimed purely at the female market.

Essentially family dynamics have changed and females are commonly the chief financial officer in a household these days compared to 20-30 years ago when they didn't leave the kitchen. Females are now carrying the voice in a family in regards to family outings etc. That's why the BBL teams al wore pretty bright colours was to be more attractive to females. Females are also having a much greater say in what sports their kids play so having women interested in the game is only good for junior participation.

At this point in time she said the take up of womens memberships for BBL was huge, nothing they had seen before and it definitely at that point in time stood the AFL on notice. She preempted the AFL would move into that space extremely quick which they have.

It’s not rocket science is it.
Delay the new teams and work on improving the current setup.

Why...…

Its only us men who care about its standard and to be honest its never going to be a standard that we are happy with.

If more females go to the game or watch on tv they have a team of interest that can only be a good thing right.

You could also argue that getting girls out of the amateur state level set ups and into the professional football world would infact increase the standards pretty quickly.

IF they go or watch then great but is that the case?

My network of friends that showed interest in the first 3 years have quickly moved on or gone back to supporting netball.

Not sure what the stats show here though??

When there was 10 teams that was plenty for at least 3-4 years, now the talent is spread way too thin and it is only going to get worse,

That being said Port will get the best youngster many have seen in Lauren Young next year.

Not sure about the stats and it will be hard to guage given the Covid era, I mean is any sport actually growing attendance at the moment, it’s more about limiting the drop off.

Yeah the quality will be diluted by 13 and 10 year old daughter don’t care about the standard…..that’s who the AFL wants not me and you who go on forums and post about footy.

This will be as low as the standard gets but they have to let every AFL team have a women’s side. It’s allows them to grow their female supporter base. No way did Port want a generation of female kids having the Crows women side to get behind, that’s just handing the Crows male side future memberships.

Standard will be crap for a few years whilst it’s diluted and then rise dramatically as the first generation of females growing up with a football in the hands start to come through.
