Essendon/Roos game in 2001 was probably the best game of footy ever...despite the result

Mine was in one of the special olympics (cannot remember year sorry) swimming competition where all swimmers but one had completed and he was struggling to make the distance --- all other competitors got back into the pool to encourage and when the individual finished they all celebrated --- still brings tears to these old eyes thinking about it

My sister was competing in the Nationals at the Amputee games in the mid 80's, where most competitors were missing whole or partial limbs, and one young girl missing BOTH legs took a good 2 mins+ than anyone else to complete the event, but it was the noisest of any events because every competitor and onlooker willed her on, and her achievement meant the world to her ... To some winning doesn't matter, just proving that you're capable of doing it is the greatest achievement!

I reckon your thinking about the Sydney Olympics, not the special olympics, where that guy from some dot on the map in africa was competing in the 100m or something heats, and he struggled to finish but the crowd cheered him on... apparantly he'd never even seen a swimming pool before, practiced in rivers or something...

I was only about 14 at the time mate but this young girl made a big impression on me, for the 4 days she could be seen wheeling herself around on a skateboard, was a chatty little thing and always had a smile on her face ... Sport or not she was inspiration enough just as a person.
