Re: Preliminary Final teams.
I think WHUFC is right. A replay of the Prelim is surely not an option. I'm certain the SMA and the SACA have a locked in agreement that states the playing surface of Adelaide Oval is handed over for cricket preparation from about 6.00pm this Sunday. There is no contingency for a draw and a replay in any SANFL final, including the GF, these days so I'm sure the GF has to be played next Sunday and that a North or Eagles win has to be the final outcome.

A replay would mean also another week off for Norwood, they would have to do a mini pre season to be right if they had another week off

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
Is it really an issue for SACA since the Redbacks don't play any white ball cricket at home these days. First Shield game is October 16. They've let concerts on the surface before games FFS!Down the Hill wrote:I think WHUFC is right. A replay of the Prelim is surely not an option. Replay is the long shot option. Most likely is the removal of the 8 points scored. That is punishment enough for the error as North won't be advancing.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
I don't see how you could possibly delay the GF when none of this is Norwood's fault. You could possibly replay the final quarter tomorrow night.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
I must admit that Meggsy's (Greg Edwards) reasoning for why the incident happened does puzzle me a bit. He says that the North bench thought that a player was down in the rooms receiving treatment, therefore with two on the bench they believed they had three off the field. Now who was the player they believed was receiving treatment? If it was Spina or Thring, surely they should have recognised them on the bench. How blind are the North officials? If it was a player who was on the field, surely it shouldn't have taken five minutes for someone to recognise he was on the field?

Tribunal 6.30. Both clubs to plead their case.
I think this favours the eagles.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
Why is there even a tribunal
We know it happened
We know how many points North scored during that period
North will concede it was a mistake and they did not deliberately cheat to which there will be zero proof to show either way.
Eagles will claim the extra man cost them 8 points and therefore the victory to which we will never know what would have happened.
Now make your deciscion rather than turn it into Judge Judy.

As they weren't down in the rooms, surely the official should have recognised them on the bench?? No player was down in the rooms, they should have very quickly become aware of that. If they thought it was either Spina or Tropiano, how could they not recognise players only a few feet away from them?

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
If it was discovered during the game that they had 19 men what would have been the penalty at that stage?

SANFL Update: 17 September 5.45pm:
'The SA Football Commission met at Adelaide Oval at 3pm today.
At the request of Woodville West Torrens Football Club, the Commission considered the issue of North Adelaide Football Club having 19 players on the field during yesterday’s preliminary final against Woodville West Torrens.
In accordance with the SANFL Constitution, Rules and Regulations, the SA Football Commission resolved that the matter be referred to the independent SANFL Tribunal for determination.
The Commission has appointed retired Supreme Court judge the Hon. Michael David QC to hear the matter. The hearing will be held at Adelaide Oval at 6.30pm tonight.
Both clubs will attend and make submissions before the Tribunal. In accordance within the SANFL Constitution, Rules and Regulations, the decision is unable to be challenged or appealed'

Waste of time mate, its a foregone conclusion.
Only have to look at the precedence set in 1975 when the Eagles did it and theres was a much worse infraction as their players knew and jumped into the crowd, hit beneath floggers and ran away to avoid being counted. And that was when the West ccaptain did the right thing and asked for a count.
The SANFL took no action against the Eagles.
Yesterdays incident was much more tame and no count was even called for.
No brainer, I can't believe the outrage, I assume most people are just taking the piss.
The Eagles know this which is probably why there was no sign of any training at Woodville today. They probably just want to be seen as doing something to appease their 12 fans.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
Wow that last line is a tad worrying if your a North fan.
I hope it doesn’t get over turned but would giggle if it did.

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
TBH I don’t care who gets through but everyone keeps mentioning 8 points, it actually stopped the Eagles opportunity to score also. They may have kicked another goal or two. Who knows!

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
If the game gets overturned you’d feel aggrieved if you backed the Eagles (guessing this is what Another Grubb did)

They need to cop a decent punishment but let them play the GF. Dock them 4 points or something next year

Re: Preliminary Final teams.
Hopefully the are just giving the Eagles a bit of lip service by having the tribunal.
The rules can not be any clearer imo.
No head count no breach.
I reckon it happened in a BL&G final a couple years back involving Barossa District i reckon. There was a head count and Barossa had 19 on field. I dont remember much about it but i believe they just recieved a fine and maybe a free kick at the time. Deciding wether the score should be wiped was left up to the directors during the week. JIM05 might remember more
