Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Channel 7 commentator, John Casey has just tweeted saying 150,000 viewers for Eagles v Sturt.
The SANFL is saved !
It just seems when crowds are focused on being down we get the "yeah but TV ratings are high" card !

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
They say an AFL reserves competition is too expensive, then how about they have a comp that plays half the season?
Thinking outside the square could this work?
Crows and Power play each other in Round 1 Round 6 and Round 11 of the SANFL season, in Rounds 2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10 they play the existing SANFL clubs once with the results being for points for the SANFL clubs only. Port & Crows do not form part of the premiership table. SANFL clubs will treat it seriously as there is 2 points on the table, Port & Crows will treat it seriously cause they tell us they "play to the line".
Come the end of the 11 games they have a bye and then head off to the newly formed AFL reserves competition which runs for the last 10 weeks of the AFL season. The remaining SANFL clubs then battle it out for a genuine premiership for the back end of the year without fearing facing a full [or weakened] AFL reserves side.
This to me cuts down the cost of an AFL reserves competition, provides a compromise to all parties and importantly provides as close to a genuine SANFL competition for the traditional clubs as there can be.
Thoughts?

Dude, Wedgie posted them just before I answered you.

10-15k is a very broad range. 10k is only 1000 less than now not really a earth shattering disaster.

Did you know the Crows are also responsible for the Beaumont children disappearance?

On average it was well over a 25% drop sometimes close to 50% which is even worse than the 20% drop in the minor round.
It is a disaster.

That's the low end of the scale, and without free tickets.
At the other end we have 6,000 extra patrons, all paid, that's a 66% increase on the high end of the figures you want to laud.

Can you explain how 10K is 1000 less than 8-9K?

Classy? As opposed to people comparing this to war, referring to Crows as cancer and hoping and celebrating injuries to players?
Classy is long gone on here mate

Geezus, compare the pre AFL games at an old Adelaide Oval to the figures at the new developed Adelaide Oval now, even worse than I thought.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Forgot to add source of crowd figures http://australianfootball.com/seasons/season/sanfl/107/premiership%2Bseason/3/3/2012/basic#qualifying-final
Yeah the days prior to the Adelaide Oval redevelopment were great for watching finals double headers. Great crowds and atmosphere. The potential if the games were held on a Saturday.
Once Glenelg are in the finals crowds increase - sacking Mickan, well you still have wonder at that decision.
Get the comp right, do some decent promotion and with the new stadium the SANFL can get some great crowds.

crowd number are about as expected from 2012 with the exception of 2014. decline started in 2012 2 years before AFL teams started but i guess you need someone to blame
