RIP. Bernard Woolley in Yes Minister is very much under-rated, a perfect foil to the back-and-forths between Humphrey Appleby and Jim Hacker, and often highlighting the irony or silliness (as the last few seconds of this excerpt demonstrates):

Also had some funny lines in his own right.

Hacker: Bernard, Humphrey should have seen this and warned me.
Bernard: I don't think Sir Humphrey understands economics, he did read classics.
Hacker: What about Sir Frank? He is Head of the Treasury.
Bernard: I am afraid he is in a greater disadvantage in understanding economics, he is an economist.

Terry Jones from Monty Python has passed away at the age of 77. RIP.

https://www.theage.com.au/culture/celeb ... 53tw2.html

He gave us many great Python characters (Mr Creosote, Brian's Mum, and numerous pepper-pot ladies), but I'll always love him as Prince Herbert in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail.'

FATHER: One day, lad, all this will be yours!

PRINCE HERBERT: What, the curtains?

FATHER: No, not the curtains, lad!

Anyone who has followed a long suffering football team would empathise with Gordon Ottershaw (whom I think is in @Doddy's avatar)

"EIGHT-ONE! EIGHT-BLOODY-ONE!"

I might drag out my Ripping Yarns DVD tonight.

Always worth a watch, and seriously under-rated IMHO.

Forgot about Gordon Ottershaw. Although, I imagine Geoff Blethyn would've been offended by his disparaging remarks about the centre-forward who wore glasses on the pitch. ;)

Ripping Yarns..... now that takes me back!

I have a vague memory of an episode where the central character has an uncle who collects diseases......and he was shocked to learn his uncle had taken ill.......
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

Yes, and when I'm finished I might tuck myself into bed with his * Nasty Book, and read myself to sleep with Bert Fegg, the West Bromley Fighting Haddock and Depravo the Rat...

* - like Ripping Yarns, a collaboration with Michael Palin.
