Really looks to be a decent sized Premiership window for the Power.

Re: Port Adelaide 2015
Lobbe signed until end of 2019, 5 years? Big risk IMO, not sure why they had to go for a 5 year contract for him? Thoughts?

A big risk? A big risk would be playing lindsay thomas when there is no oscar to be won.

not sure why you needed to be a tool about it. 5 years is a LOT, for a ruckman especially, and whilst he is good, i am not sure he would have had tons of clubs lining up to give him huge contracts

Re: Port Adelaide 2015
yeah no doubt, he is a good ruckman. but he isnt say a top 5 ruck in the comp imo, and im just not sure he needed to be locked away for 5 years. those sorts of contracts seem to be reserved for the big gun forwards etc.
good luck to him though

Re: Port Adelaide 2015
IMO A graders get 5 years, Lobbe isn't an A grader. What happens if him and Ryder don;t work and they can only play one ruck like most of this year?
When Wines & Wingard come out of contract next they will be demanding at least 5 years after this.

Re: Port Adelaide 2015
Agreed 5 years is a long time. 'BUT' he has been our most important player for the last 2-3 years IMO, Whilst he lacks that class that the likes of Boak and Grey Etc have if he went down over the last 2 years we would've been well and truly up the creek with out a paddle at all.
As said, IMO our most important player of the last 2-3 years.
And just out of interest if he 'isn't in the best group of ruckmen in the comp' as you guys put it, How far behind is he?

You serious? He can go with every ruck men in the comp and with out a doubt has the best tank out of all of them. With free agent now allowing players to move clubs much easier, you would be stupid not to lock away your key players for long term contract. Port want to keep Lobe to the end of his career and a 5 year deal is what is needed.

I don't believe Jacobs is 'A level above' Lobbe. I also believe he is in front of Maric, Pyke and Ryder as a ruckmen.

You make it work. Not to mention that Ryder will be playing the backup ruck men, so to think "they might not work together is plain stupidity". Do you think Port won't want to sign Wines and Wingard to 5 year plus contracts, I'd be happy to give them 7 years right now to secure their future at alberton.

I don't believe Jacobs is 'A level above' Lobbe. I also believe he is in front of Maric, Pyke and Ryder as a ruckmen.
Jacobs wins every statistical category, both in 2014 and over their career, except for tackles, which lobbe is significantly better at.
In 2013 when most people agree that Jacobs had a down year, their stats are almost exactly the same (except tackles again)
he has also been in the all australian squad in 2012 and 2014 and some say unlucky to miss out (was clearly in the top 3 ruckmen in both years with sandy and goldy)
i want to reiterate that in no way is lobbe a bad ruckman, in fact he is a very good one, but he is not elite. could very well push into that category though.

Re: Port Adelaide 2015
I think the 5 year deal is more an indication of how important he is to our team, rather than fear of losing him or comparing him to other ruckmen. There is doubt as to whether Redden will get back to regular footy, Ryder is still an unknown factor, and our other rucks are 4-5 years from afl footy
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
