If Carey had a stay at home forward role I reckon he'd have the goal kicking record. Lockett harder to man up on, Carey more versatile.

Carey could go and help out down back whereas Plugger would stop at half forward and ask for directions.

If Carey had a stay at home forward role I reckon he'd have the goal kicking record. Lockett harder to man up on, Carey more versatile.

Carey could go and help out down back whereas Plugger would stop at half forward and ask for directions.

to hold the goal kicking record when he played most of his career at one of the worst sides going around is a tremendous effort...

if plug had the players around him like carey did add some more goals to that tally...

Carey is one of the greats, i just think plug is better. just my opinion though

Think Simon Black on ball possessions, but with 900 goals. Think Mathew Lloyd goal kicking, but while playing on ball all his career.

Leigh Mathews is, IMO, the greatest to play the game. There was more spectacular, no doubt. There was more brilliant, no doubt. I think this bloke stands head and shoulders (below - lol) above all others.

Behind him the likes of Ablett (x2), Lockett, Dunstall, Carey et al.

I know that Stephen Nichols, Malcolm Blight, Rick Davies and John Roberts used to always be around the mark in the Ken Farmer medal while playing for lower sides.

He sat in the forward pocket for quite some time towards the end of his career in arguably the most dominant side for any given decade.

Having said that, I never really liked the guy after the Barrie Robran incident, I did grow to like him though during his time at Brisbane.

One does not win two Brownlow Medals and two premierships if they are overrated.

Considering only 13 players in the history of the VFL/AFL have achieved the feat, it puts him up there with the all time greats of the game.

FWIW Goodes is no where near overrated. One of my personal favourites in his prime. Was an absolute gun!
