What, no life guards saying one at a time. Was this sit abandoned because they built the aquatic centre in North Adelaide or was it because they wanted the site for the festival centre.
I would have done that jump a few times about then. My first formal swimming lessons occurred there in a primary school group in about 1954.
IIRC correctly the place was getting a bit run down and in need of a lot of maintenance and it was decided to build the new pool instead, but alternative uses for the old site were possibly already in mind. I never did go to the new pool.
One of my memories of the old pool was meeting a well known 20-something stripper/dancer there when I was about 16, and applying her sun tan lotion.

The story is that having given up on paying consultants to come up with a solution, staff at the transport department were asked to come up with something. A regular staff member, your everyday, garden-variety public servant, came up with the idea of two roundabouts, surprising everyone with its simplicity. And...it worked.
