Oh please.

I respect women very highly, just not their opinion on football ;)

Am I the only one that didn't think Sam resigned/retired last night??

It was a mash of ifs and buts but nothing definite.

Na, without Sam the Footy Show wouldn't have a single viewer, he's the backbone of it, people used to watch it to see what he'll f*** up next.

I haven't watched an episode for over 10 years, I like watching footy shows for footy news and the team lists, not the rest of the sideshow they have going on.

You and I know that about Sam but I don’t think the producers share the same thought.
I think they have reeled him in so far he’s almost had enough of it.

i remember watching the footy show with my mum when i was a kid, than as i got older i would try my hardest to get home from footy training to watch it. i watched it religiously, even when i knew it wasn't as good. But i haven't watched an ep for over two years now. real shame as it was such a great show... It didn't take itself to seriously.

Absolutely, circa 1992-1998 it was train, race/walk home as quick as we could to get home and watch it.

I reckon I've sat through 15 minutes in the last 5 years.

Funny, people on Twitter / FB saying "Look at all these people who don't watch it commenting on how shit it is"

Well, I've never been to Ayers Rock, but I know it's there.

That’s because back then, it was the only football show on air. The news and reviews for the week were breaking on that show right then.
Now we have too many journo’s and a plethora of footy shows every night of the week, any news has already been discussed to death.
That’s why people won’t sit up and watch it anymore, we are spoilt for choice now.

I wouldn't know any more, I just posted in an attempt to sound smart and it's too early for me to sneak off unnoticed yet.

Yep. can usually get away with a 3pm disappearance unless I've told them the day before that I have an appointment that I was able to push out to late in the day.

Quite often they just get annoyed with me and tell me to go home if I have nothing better to do.

I laughed this morning when I saw that flog Ricky Nixon put up a post about his great mate Sam Newman and how bad he has been treated etc and the fun police have been his undoing. Mind you, before saying that, he said "flicked over to the Footy Show last night for the first time this year"........... That's why they are being taken off the air. Not because of the fun police, but because it's a shit show and nobody watches it ya cock.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

The Footy Show

yes it was a Thursday night staple viewing in most houses in the 90s and even into the early 00s

It really did need to spend a little more time on the teams/matches etc, and they didn't take themselves to seriously.

then they had panel changes, host changes and things seemed to go off the rails, with those issues plus the Fun Police and then The Front Bar came in to provide some competition. I haven't tuned in much over the last few years - it interferes with my dog punting, but its always there if you need something light and not think about it.
the thing is Sam, when he talks footy, can actually be really compelling to listen too, but he made himself out to be a certain character on the show and we never got a chance to hear his views etc.

the Front Bar have done a great job in basically copying the same format the Footy Show had at the start, and it works!!!

I disagree to a point. I think Front Bar have taken the good bits, but to a whole new level. They have the old footage, its a gold mine for them, so having old players on and replaying that old footage is a simple formula. That coupled with the fact they have comedians (not footballers) doing the comedy (Mick Molloy only just qualifies - Sam Pang is good) and they keep the production tight. Its only an hour makes it work. In 20 years time this formula will also look & feel dated.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

There are more AFL accredited journalists than there are AFL listed footballers.

Think about that!
