Former Essendon and Richmond midfielder Sam Lonergan and Aaron Joseph have both signed for SANFL club Glenelg, former Carlton defender Marcus Davies is believed to be staying in Melbourne and while former Gold Coast Suns forward Jacob Gillbee will train with his old club Lauderdale before Christmas, it is understood he is also leaning towards relocating to South Australia.

Good possibility that Central will one of the clubs chasing him - a couple of players from the Dogs from Tassie now...

Does anyone else think SANFL reserves will go the way of the dinosours within say 5 years?

Personally i cant see enough players being interested in SANFL.

Have thought that for years, why would anyone train 5 days a week get paid $50-100 a week with no guarantee of ever getting a league game?

It used to be ok to do that because there was some prestige and sense of achievment to play League football.
That feeling will be severely diminished in the coming years resulting in the attitude you speak of.

Well, we're a feeder league now, so there's the main reason to stay. If the option to go to the AFL is gone, there's probably little reason to stay on.

The salary cap certainly needs to be looked at. But could SANFL clubs afford to pay more for their players anyway?

I asked that same question bout a page back, not much response.
Could they introduce a system of no payments for say U20's so that more could be spent to retain older players.
U20s should be playing to get drafted not for the money.

What's the gap between an A1 side and an SANFL ressies side these days?

I would use the same argument I use when saying why SANFL reserves standard is better than the NEAFL. Based on overall fitness and skill SANFL ressies teams would easily beat an A1 side. Yes every A1 side has 5-6 players who are league standard and 1-2 who could be guns at SANFL league level. Just like every SANFL reserves teams as 5-6 players who are easily league standard and sometimes if they are coming back through injury or are youngsters on teh way up are possible guns at League level.

Where SANFL reserves team have the advantage is that the bottom 5-6 players at an A 1 senior team would struggle to play ressies footy as witness by then number of players who play decent amatueur/country level footy who try out at league clubs each year but are cut by April or leave on their own accord when they can't make a Reserves team.

it depth of quality in a reserves SANFL team which makes ressies standard better than A1. it is also the reason why fringe ressises players leave SANFL clubs to play at Amamteur level as they can get the coin with the required weekly effort.

North Ballarat have withdrawn their VFL reserves team for 2014 so it has started already.

Seems to be almost zero movement inwards at South Adelaide. Normally this time of year they are one of the busiest.

They obviously are in desperate need of a key forward now and also their ruck stocks are low and could use a few more defenders....

Any rumours about possible recruits? We know money is no issue down there.

didn't shop himself around. Glenelg couldn't accommodate his request to get his girlfriend into her uni course. West Adelaide were the closest SA club to get him
