Why is it so offensive to you?

I find it it very unfair the money being spent on comparison. I never heard anyone here a few years back screaming for it ?

In fairness the money being spent on womens football over the last 5 years pales into comparison the hundreds of millions of dollar that has been spent on Male/Country/Amatuer/Junior football over the last 100 years.

Not really a fair comparison though as the women have benefitted too by joining a code that was already well pre-established through said investment.

I have no issue at all with the girls playing footy btw, was just responding to that one comment. Think it's fantastic the sport is open to them and am certain there will be a dramatic shift in natural ability over the next 10-15 years. As others have said, as with any sport/movie/TV show etc, noone has to watch it if they don't like it.

On the topic however , I am not against females playing football just the money and exposure ahead of better football to watch.

Just to throw my two bobs' worth in as a teacher: AFLW is creating a lot of interest in football from our female students. We are now seeing a lot of young ladies kicking the football around on the oval and also participating in the actual sport. This is also developing more of an interest for them in the actual AFL (men's) as well.
Interest amongst older people is somewhat less though: as an example, our AFL Football Tipping Comp gets about 40 participants whilst only 5 signed up for the AFLW Tipping Comp - a pretty fair indication, IMHO, of adult interest in the game.

Many posters on here have enjoyed the great things that football and its clubs can bring. Mateship, the joy of playing our national game, a sense of achievement, pride, physical and mental fitness, and, dare I say it, for some, a bit of cash. Why would you want to deny them the opportunity?

I don't have any real passion for Ice Hockey. So, I don't watch it, read about it or seek out the scores.

Don't miss it, refuse to watch it and I'm sure the pittance I and those of my era used to put in in comparison to the new 'fans' means it will make a negligible difference to the bottom line of Gill and his cronies. Which is all they genuinely care about.

The simple equation,if the AFL are serious is have the Womans league play a season aside the Mens league. I am sure the marketing machine will ensure no Mens trials soon as it crosses over. Its not that hard to comprehend.

A fair enough point, only reason I hadn't scrapped the AFL team off was laziness. Haven't watched them for years, only watch SANFL these days and am quite content. Why does it upset you so much that I don't like something?
