Looking at the results from last weekend again, do you think this is shaping up to be a very lop-sided season across most grades?
Appears to be a couple of stand outs in each grade, a couple who are clearly going to struggle and then those in between..

I wouldn't be calling crisis talks just yet mate, round 1 will find players on footy trips, wanting a few weeks off between sports, not sure if they want to commit yet or underdone because it's come around quickly.

I do think there will be standouts though.
Grade 1: Westies & Angle Vale.
Grade 2: Riverside & Eastern Park. The rest of the pack will be close except for probably OTH.
Grade 3: Will be an even comp after a few rounds, I'd expect more out of Angle Vale than what they produced last season.
Grade 4: Elizabeth East & Eastern Park will be standouts, Two Wells will be not too far behind them.
Grade 5: The Units look good on paper as do Rosies, haven't had a look at Riverside's line up yet to draw a conclusion.

The Units from last year were very good, unfortunate in the Grand Final with an injured Opener, Fenwick wasn't able to get on top and Woodward got a cracker first up. Their bowling was good-ok all year round and they just didnt have enough runs on the board, the addition of Pickton to help bring about some economical overs while the kids take wickets will be very handy and Richo Thomas is a class act with both Gloves and Bat. They lacked that little bit of experience which they have found in these two and if Nuske can find some form I would have money on Units in the top three.

They definetely have the talent to push Grade 1 sides, their downfall will be the lack of patience waiting for the bad ball, we were found out last season as we couldn't play with the same flambouyancy as we did in Grade 2, most of the Units top order are stroke players and you don't face many bad balls in Grade 1.
By the sounds of things they haven't set unrealistic goals and they've been on the cusp of promotion for a few years.

Agree 100% with this comment LM, if you can tie them down and they will get tied down in grade 1 they try and play a big shot to ease the pressure and get themselves out.
They have a good batting line up and are all stroke players, very good to watch when they are on top.
Hopefully Bags has them playing with some patience when required and they can push for a finals berth in grade 1 in what should be an open season apart from the top 2 in Westies and probably the Vale.
Dont discount Rosies though as they would still be wounded and carrying scars from last season.

I think Ricky Thomas wont be as agressive as your Nathan Fenwicks and Bradley Woodwards
may play more of an anchor role as the othes play more strokes. well lets hope so, otherwise we could possibly see them coming back to grade 2 alot quicker then they think.

Lower Gilbert cricket:

Competition closes but where is the cup?

“It was last seen at the Owen Hotel, under the pool table.”
