If this is true, and i have no idea if it is, it will no doubt change how we use the net..
I hope this article on the future of the net is crap..

Don't know enough about computing to know if what they are saying is even possible. Hope it's not then again I'm kinda surprised 9/11 wasn't used as an excuse to do something similar. Looking at those example packages they remind me of Sky TV so it sounds like old Rupert has bought the internet.
They might just be conspiracy theorizing cheese eating surrender monkey geeks of course. Shame they had to use some bird in a sheepdog bra (rounds 'em up and points 'em in the right direction) to get people's attention. Did you notice how they flashed* her up on screen again at almost exactly halfway through
Hopefully one of our resident computer experts will tell us it's never going to happen.
Regards

It is not impossible, and I would think the big players would try for it. Telstra/Foxtel here for example.
Nevertheless, so long as independent ISPs exist there will be an uncontrolled Internet even if major sites are not accessible via it.
Governments, of course, would favour a controlled Internet for their own ends, though they would put it up as a strategy to eliminate porn sites and terrorist net-working. In the end it is the ultimate Public Private Partnership - the governments get social control and kudos for saving us from evil, and the commercial interests get money.
[Which is why I think our new federal government will eventually make a deal with Telstra that gives BigPond a dominant position in Australia.]

I dunno - she is apparently not compatible with the Opera browser, because she didn't appear at all for me.
I'll try later witrh Firefox!

The whole site apparently does not work properly with Opera - Internet Explorer orientated coding instead of International standard compliance is getting more common, like sloppy spelling!
It worked with Firefox, but Net Neutrality should require sites work with all browsers too.

Re: I hope this article on the future of the net is crap..
There is too much advertising money to be made on the net (not to mention the amount made by the adult entertainment industry
) for 2012 to be the end of the net.
No free Google, Bebo, Yahoo Youtube etc...
Just opens the door for a new, free (advertising driven) lot of search engines.
Anyone capable of setting one up if this was to happen?(a free internet search engine, NOT adult site
)...let me know and I'll chuck you some quid to get it started and we'll become the new Bill Gates
