South's 1964 Premiership
Just wondering if anyone can help me with some details regarding South's last premiership?
Specifically what was the date the Grand Final was played.
Long Story, short is that I am trying to get my hands on a copy of the Sunday Mail or what ever the daily rag was the day after the GF as a 70th birthday present as I think it contained a picture of an piece of grafitti that was painted on Neil Kerleys Hotel (whilst celebrations were in full swing) pertaining to the eventual premiers (Port Magpies) of the following year.

No idea where you'd get an original copy.
But the State Library has the Sunday Mail, The Advertiser and The News all on microfilm.
Start there and you'll find exactly what you're looking for in about ten minutes.
Then if you need a print, the Copy Centre will sort you out...

No worries. There's an info/help desk that's always attended right next to the microfilm shelves if you have any troubles. Good luck!

Re: South's 1964 Premiership
Neil Kerley became the Panthers coach in 1964 after leaving West Adelaide. For whatever reason Kerley, who had taken West to the 1961 premiership and the 1962 GF was dumped as coach prior to 1963 in favour of Doug Thomas (who reportedly didn't want the job and actually tried to convince the club board to retain Kerley). Kerles stayed on at West in 1963 to honour his contract, but once that finished he couldn't get out of there fast enough was off to South Adelaide.
Kerley took Souths, who had finished stone motherless last in 1963, to the 1964 premiership. I'm sure those on the West Adelaide club board responsible for sacking him tasted bile that day and as it turned out, Westies would be pretty much anchored to the bottom of the ladder for the better part of the next 15 years.
West Adelaide's loss was South Adelaide's gain in 1964.

"21 goals 16 to 16 goals 12 and West Adelaide have won it" - Ch.7's Robert Oatey as Westies won the 1983 SANFL premiership
