All colognes, after shaves, and scents, imply that using them will help you attract the opposite sex.
However, have you ever smelled the natural attractants used by animal species - goats for example?
Basically female goats signal receptiveness by wagging their tails.
Male goats respond to the first sign of this activity by starting to drink their own urine and reabsorbing their excreted Testosterone.
The reek of Testosterone stimulates the herd females' hormone production to bring the whole herd into season more quickly and gets the tails wagging.
OK, goats are less subtle than some other animal species, but basically that is how it works for all.
Humans are sold perfumes often based on using animal attractants like musk, but disguised with floral, or citrus, or other overtones.
This probably reduces their effectiveness at attracting mates, but enables us to pretend we are trying to smell "nice" rather than raunchy
More modern ones may use synthetic versions of the attractants derived (probably) from petro-chemical sources.
The goat technique is probably more effective...

Spot on, Q.
As I've said (admitted?) elsewhere I use Eau Sauvage - Apres Rasage by Dior.
It is a nice light citrus smell that won't drive anyone away.

It won't drive anyone away, but it will bore them to death
