I find it interesting that Sportsbet.com.au now has markets for the premierships in a number of Victorian Leagues:
Goulburn Valley
Kyabram District
Murray
Heathcote District
Loddon Valley
Essendon District
Ballarat
Bendigo
Picola South East
Mallee
Picola North West
I have also seen some of the VAFA divisions and other metro leagues but these markets must have now been closed.
With the rise of online bookmakers, it could be expected that these type of markets could extend to SA and WA, and may progress on to individual games etc.
What does everyone think about this? Are we ready for it?

I have no problem with this as long as it is only betting on premierships and not on individual games or margins/goalkickers etc. Pretty hard to get an entire team to lose a flag, but very easy to get an individual to manipulate their part in a game.

yeah the further away from scrutiny and TV, and the less people get paid, the likelihood of corruption goes up.
I would think the betting on this sort of thing would be very small though. interesting to see how they set their odds. could probably get very good odds if you were knowledgeable about the leagues

Which has resulted in issues in Victoria:
"Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been wagered on the outcome of the club’s games, including the number of goals conceded, by the syndicate in collaboration with the allegedly corrupted players."
...
"The players are understood to have allegedly received kickbacks for conceding goals or throwing matches, and police have been unable to rule out the possibility they were involved in match fixing at their previous clubs."
