Canberra (Civic)

Post by Wedgie »

Bloody work is making me go to Canberra for a couple of days in 3 weeks time, will be located in Civic.
Have previously stayed at the Novatel which I thought was very ordinary.
Anyone have some decent experiences accom wise around Civic?
Close proximity to a decent pub a bonus.

During Floriade?

IF you are back in the Public Service, I am not sure you get a choice (Departmental Contracts etc).

I tend to avoid hotel rooms so normally have no issue with Apartments by the chain companies like Quest. Plenty of them in and around Civic. I am trying the Avenue Hotel when there next. Have a one bed apartment.

Pub wise, King O'Malleys is an Irish Pub. Just Ok. Same for PJ's.
Civic Pub is better.

There are stacks of bars.

Yeah, during Floriade, I was really excited by that!
Thanks for the advice, I reckon I might do what you suggest and get an apartment, but it will basically be just for sleeping in.
I think I've been too all 3 of those pubs you mention and agree about the Civic Pub (but I haven't been there for several years).
I actually prefer staying at Woden, Tuggeranong, etc where I used to as a public servant but don't have any choice this time unfortunately.
Tried to join via video conference but unfortunately about 70 are going and all are expected.
Could still catch Covid yet I suppose.
