Headland vs Selwood

It's going to be interesting to see how Headlands report for striking Selwood pans out after Selwood allegedly made a comment about Headlands 6 yr old daughter that caused the incident.

Does anyone know what he said? He must of been (allegedly) referring to the tattoo on Headlands arm....

In the Australian today it was reported that he called Hedlands daughter a sl#t! They say no one could get Des to calm down, even well after the game. I would proberly react the same way if someone said something like that about my daughter.

selwood got the intended reaction, so good on him. if you are dumb enough to go punch someone in the afl these days u deserve to be rubbed out!

Des Hedland has to be suspended as it is unlikely there is any case where deliberate striking is ever going to be able to be justified in any game of Football.

Adam Selwood on the other hand should be given the same suspension that is melted out to Des Hedland. What he did was an openly Cowardly and Dirty act and the AFL has to see that it is dealt with. If Hedland was Aboriginal and was called some derogatory remark relating to that the AFL would be all over Selwood. There is absolutley no difference in this case in fact there is a case that it is a worse infringment. If Hedland goes for Six weeks, Selwood should also be stood out of the AFL for six weeks.

It is a pity that WA dont have the same version of the Ramsgate Hotel, so that Hedland could have the opportunity to finish the job and give the coward what he really deserves. :evil:

Yeah pretty sure that was the penalty, I think it was 6 games but 5 if he pleaded guilty.

I think he is of Aboriginal desent of sorts, he did play with them against Essendon a few years back.

Society/football has never put up with those sort of comments about one's 6yo daughter.
BUT one could agree that football has become TOO sensitive when it doesn't allow someone to thump a bloke for making such comments.

Not much consolation for Freo or Headland tho if he is missing for 5 weeks

Obviously you don't have kids Mr66, or a daugher perhaps. If you do, you have a pretty relaxed attitude about it, so half your luck. If it were me I would've chased the mongrel out to the carpark to finish the job. Unfortunately for Freo, Headland's feelings on the matter are similar to mine.

Apparently the West Coast Tosser player called his six year old daughter a slut. If I called your daughter/mum/sister a slut I would you turn around and say 'good on ya REB very funny'? Er no, you'd be after my head and rightly so. Society and Football are started to align themselves when it comes to what is acceptable and what is not. Years ago you could call someone a black so and so on the field but we've moved on from that and so has football. Sledging about a players' ability (or lack of) is one thing, but to make such a remark (ok, allegedly LOL) about a six year old girl just shows West Coast's complete lack of class. Hedland will go but Selwood might get in strife as well.

Disagree, it shows Selwoods lack of class. He made his own decision to say it- pretty sure the CEO didnt make him say it. Put Braun in the same boat for his "F" Bomb after the Derby- it just makes himself look like a loser.

IMHO Headland deserves to get six weeks and Selwood deserves to get 0. This having been said, Selwood deserves to lose any bit of respect he had, and if I were his mate- I wouldn't be any more.........

Indeed Selwood's form does appear to be ordinary ... One question I have however, is whether it would be that much worse than referring to Headlands wife/mum/girlfriend in the same manner, something that has been commonplace in footy for generations?

I'm not by any stretch saying it's acceptable, just wondering if it's that much worse than other things that have been said on the field in the last 100 years? (And I agree Wedgie, that the goalposts have shifted over the years and a bloke can't gain retribution as easily as before)
