Is Robert Oakeshott having second thoughts?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Not as embarrassing as the 78-71 vote on day one.

For that, a Lib-NP (apart from Peter Slipper) must have voted with Labor.

Didn't read much about that in the media, of course.

This issue is so minor it hardly warrants a thread.
There is bound to be some shuffling about in this situation and we need to let things settle in before we focus on partisan point scoring over voting on minor settling in issues.
Independents, and Party members, will occasionally vote by conscience rather than by party lines or alliances over specific issues.
The Coalition is generally more tolerant of such transient attacks of morality than the ALP, although it may vary under individual leaders.
This will show up in time and any leader who proves too dictatorial will eventually get the shove by others in his party uniting against him or her.

The 78-71 was reported.

The second LibNP 'rat' wasn't reported much at all.

I'm sure I looked more than you ;)

I thought he seemed just a little too "flexible" and self-promoting compared to the other two Independents.
I wonder whether this will affect his position in the government structure, or even the stability of the parliament in the long run.

The Daily Telegraph says the MP from NSW admitted on Wednesday to discussing Birdon Marine, a local business in his electorate, during negotiations, but did not reveal the Port Macquarie-based contractor donated thousands of dollars to his political campaigns. The NSW Opposition has referred Mr Oakeshott's links with the company to the NSW corruption agency for investigation.
The News Limited report said it was understood that between 2002 and 2007 Birdon Marine donated more than $15,000 to Mr Oakeshott's state election campaigns.

Psyber, News Ltd is running a campaign against Oakeshott since his decision to support Gillard.

I'd research a few more independent stories (if there are any).

News Ltd media are a disgrace and being called so by many other media lately.

I agree News Ltd always has its own agenda, but do you have any sources to suggest it is not factually true, even if described in a slanted way?
I'd happily read a genuinely independent summation if I could find one.
