300 runs in 50 overs and they say there not good enough to play a higher grade = Jokes on you GSCA
C'mon Great Southern Association,
Wake the f**k Up.
We might have to rename you 'GrumpyWanderer' after your last few posts!

The thing is with Rapid Bay in the past, if you knock over Benno & Willis cheaply they'll often struggle to pass 100. Likewise with their bowling, if you can see off Dalitz and the man mountain Sparnon, life as a batsman becomes a fair bit easier. To their credit they have perservered with an A grade in the past and always start the season well, however their form seems to come down with the Christmas decorations and in A grade their lack of depth often gifts sides outrights late in the season.
Having said that, this year they seem to be getting more support from guys like Bear, Fielke & Vin Wright. The question is ... are they as good as/better than Pongy or Goolwa? Do we want a 9 team A grade with a bye? The league not wanting a bye was the ONLY reason Compass fielded 2 A grades last year. Yank & Victor certainly not capable of A grade at this stage.
C'mon Sherm You have just named 4 players that Rapid Bays have. That is more than many A Grade teams have had in the past and present. Aldinga had B.Garrard alone for many seasons and even the Association asked them to drop down to a lower grade but they declined, to try and turn things around. That attitude seems to be starting to pay off now as they are at least competitive nowadays. I wonder what Myponga and Goolwa's thoughts are. Do they have 4 or more players that can be game changers in there current sides.
Maybe you aren't seeing things as I am, being that Compass have always had a very competitive side and haven't been to struggle town for many many years. Most clubs in this Association can't afford to pay incentive payments. I'm sure Spurls wouldn't have come cheaply since he was allegedly on such a good wicket in previous years at Goolwa. This does make one wonder how much a few players would be recieving (Nummy, Bartschy, Nash, Conner, Brown, Cheesel) & that's just a few.
I believe that every club should have an A Grade, how else can you compete with the better clubs to become a better club. A couple of bad seasons shouldn't be an excuse to play lower grades as a club, it should be an excuse to try and better themselves and better the club. I don't see Yank nominating just a B Grade side in football after a few wooden spoons, but i did see them trying to better themselves as a football club and becoming competitive.
Yours sincerly "Grumpy Wanderer"
