if this is true goolwa want to have a good look at themselves. Maybe bring back the B, Rocky wouldn't have left him there.

but i dont blame him for not wanting to leave his transport there in Aldinga, it would've been flogged stripped and resold within the hour.

We might have to rename you 'GrumpyWanderer' after your last few posts! ;)

The thing is with Rapid Bay in the past, if you knock over Benno & Willis cheaply they'll often struggle to pass 100. Likewise with their bowling, if you can see off Dalitz and the man mountain Sparnon, life as a batsman becomes a fair bit easier. To their credit they have perservered with an A grade in the past and always start the season well, however their form seems to come down with the Christmas decorations and in A grade their lack of depth often gifts sides outrights late in the season.

Having said that, this year they seem to be getting more support from guys like Bear, Fielke & Vin Wright. The question is ... are they as good as/better than Pongy or Goolwa? Do we want a 9 team A grade with a bye? The league not wanting a bye was the ONLY reason Compass fielded 2 A grades last year. Yank & Victor certainly not capable of A grade at this stage.

C'mon Sherm You have just named 4 players that Rapid Bays have. That is more than many A Grade teams have had in the past and present. Aldinga had B.Garrard alone for many seasons and even the Association asked them to drop down to a lower grade but they declined, to try and turn things around. That attitude seems to be starting to pay off now as they are at least competitive nowadays. I wonder what Myponga and Goolwa's thoughts are. Do they have 4 or more players that can be game changers in there current sides.
Maybe you aren't seeing things as I am, being that Compass have always had a very competitive side and haven't been to struggle town for many many years. Most clubs in this Association can't afford to pay incentive payments. I'm sure Spurls wouldn't have come cheaply since he was allegedly on such a good wicket in previous years at Goolwa. This does make one wonder how much a few players would be recieving (Nummy, Bartschy, Nash, Conner, Brown, Cheesel) & that's just a few.
I believe that every club should have an A Grade, how else can you compete with the better clubs to become a better club. A couple of bad seasons shouldn't be an excuse to play lower grades as a club, it should be an excuse to try and better themselves and better the club. I don't see Yank nominating just a B Grade side in football after a few wooden spoons, but i did see them trying to better themselves as a football club and becoming competitive.

goolwa has mostly fielded a young side since the 06/07 season onwards when dewy, rory, richie, gav, tyson, kings, thorpey etc. played in 05/06, then it was kings, spurls, drakey, rob + other older players who filled in every now and then. and this year there is only one consistant A's player over 25 and that was Chris Hayward the next "oldest" is James Lawrence at 22 with the rest of the side under the age 21 (5 players aged 19 & under). so of course they arent going to be consistant side and or winning week in week out, it will take time, how long is unknown. yes you can also say that some of there players have been playing A's for a couple of years now so they should be stepping up performing and playing good consistant cricket but its just not happening. end rant 8)

And on spurls to my knowledge he was only paid fuel money while at goolwa and only recieved extra money when he took a five for or tonned up- and that was the same for everyone else at the club.

On a brighter subject Well Done to Bryce (Bubbles) Garrard & Rhys (BAM BAM) Mather. Both players scoring centuries.

bit harsh dont ya reckon? All chris said was- think ive done my shoulder and said he had to go off, no one knew how serious it is/was, and he did ring his family to come get him to take him to flinders and we did ask him if he needed help but said the wife is on her way, thats why no one waited with him and as for not hanging around after the game well there is no excuse for that- can we blame the weather & the days play for that? We did realise that we didnt stay after we had left.

I do know that Bartschy gets a $1 per run from Compass, however he needs to pay the club 50c for every run he gives up in the field. After 4 seasons at Compass he currently owes the club around $1100!

I don't think anyone at Compass recieves payments including Spurl's. From what Spurl's has told me he'd had enough of the crap at Goolwa and wanted a change. Plus if he went to Compass he'd get to use the woodworm! Meyer Shield players will understand

Aldinga - loosing Garrards (rosa no loss) but Sanders will fill the void and Sharks prems 2010/11
Enc Bay - best bowling , need good bats to fire
Mt. Compass - looooooooooong tail, will make enough runs to get em through
Pt Elliott - Donaldson will get em over the line for 4th with 40+ wickets for the season
Willunga - in the battle for 4th but seem to go missing at season end can make it if Peek hits form

Poor form by Goolwa (injured player), theyve struggled in the comp for a number of years (always), all that talk by RockyB about how good they were/he was so disillusional that the team started to believe it instead of working for it. Never been harmonious in house which will never win a flag.

WIW dont jump the gun to early sunshine! 242 is definately getable with a few in the line up in good nick it should be in for a interesting chase no mccard no minot so up to 3 maybe 4 bowlers expect to see a fight! as for who finishes in the top four my selections are

1.Encounter Bay-good bowling line up and just as quality batting line up (when they fire)
2.Mount Compass-Very long tail keep producing 200+ scores they should see finals!
3.Willunga-good bowling good batting can definately make finals
4.Port elliot or Vale- both have depth and can suprise teams!

and goolwa for wooden spoon......very average squad

Sorry Rama, my line of thinking is more about every club having an A Grade not just yours. No ill feelings towards you boys at all. It was just an example, as this situation seems to occur yearly but by different clubs depending on which era it is at the time. ;)

Maybe i could talk to "The Pom" and see if he can give up some more hours so Bartschy can pay off some of the debt. :-bd

Very close league this year, Be interesting to judge the top 4 at the mid year break!

good win to the young baby crays yesterday giving torrens valley u 21s a hiding, with andy losing the toss and being sent out to bowl in very cold conditions and playing on two inches of thick grass it was always going to be a tough ask to preform, A.Evans bowled very tight taking the first wicket, it seemed to be a long day in the field with not much happening no runs and not many wickets falling until that man 'mr product' C.Franceshini came on picking up his first wicket first ball middle peg, from there it was all down hill for torrens vally after 50 overs torrens valley made 9-126 with C.Franceshini taking 5-21 j.harrison 2-21 where the pick of the bowlers........now for the crays to have a crack, losing C.Thomas and J.Hicks early both for 3 we were in strife at 2-11 but that would be the only two wickets they got for a long time, (disco) J.Harrison and V.Robertson smashed the ball to all areas of the park cruising past the 126 total, J.Harrison smashing his way to a top score of 90 until he was well caught going for one two many, V.Robertson also being caught for a well made 58 from there on in it was chasing the leather around for the valley boys with chad(18) andy(34) and hamish(14*) finished the day at 6 for 236 off 50 well done to everyone in what was a excellent display of cricket!
