You said Laird wouldn't accept the Gowans' doing anything by half.

Agree to some extent, however he has been at the club for a long time, premiership(s) player, club champion, he is obviously not a money and run type of bloke.
I don't think it will cause to much angst with the playing group.
In relation to other new recruits from interstate , couldn't see the club agreeing to another McKenzie arrangement, this is a one off.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

OWW, yeah, wasn't referring to an interstate recruit doing this from the start, more the take-the-money-and-run type - a bloke who may have played for a couple of years, but then says I'm going back to my home state but will play for you if you bend over backwards for me.

Yes, I did.

I don't think McKenzie is going to not train anywhere so his fitness is not going to suffer.

Not really. Simply say to anyone requesting such an arrangement: "Are you McKenzie? Have you done all he has to earn this arrangement?"

End of conversation as there are only one or two players at each SANFL club to have done what McKenzie has at the Eagles.

Spot on.

I hope there is professional counselling for Eagles supporters at the end of next season if Macca, Powell and Cica all leave at once.

I think several SANFL clubs erred (without naming them) in not offering Macca their senior coaching position as a playing coach with a suitable mentor. But that's just me obviously Glenelg, West and Sturt (whoops  ) saw it differently.

West erred in not paying out their coach with a six figure sum and then hiring someone (and paying big money for his clearance) who's never coached before to try to coach while he plays?

Playing coach coming off Norths HB line. With your club's money why didn't you dump Francou and appoint Macca if he's such a good coach?? With Fancou ahving a worse record than both Collins and Massie in W/Ls you could have pushed Allaway forward if McKenzie's your lots playing coach.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Curious ML. Is that just your opinion, was it rumour, or did it actually get to the stage of serious talks, particular with Sturt (going by your emocon)?

The Redlegs have a good connection with former Swans players landing at The Parade. Would be a quality midfielder at this level.

My mail is Legs odds on to beat North due to the ex Swan factors in Doyle and Davis not to mention Nick Fosdike as well and his ties with Norwood.

And I think Dean Terlich, Simon Phillips and possible Sam Rowe have either been senior listed or rookie listed with the Swans as well.

Apparently he is best mates with Meiklejohn so Magpies are big chance to sign him by all accounts.

I heard he was also very close mates with Scott Stevens, so either way there's some connections with the Magpies.
