That's a good question, Jimmy, about whether the Slipper appointment will become a short-term win but a longer-term problem for the government.

I've been saying that Abbott is in strife for a long time. Not to take focus off Gillard, but because it's my opinion. (and now that of an increasing number of political commentators who have just caught up with the action).

I'm also sorry I haven't recognised the failure of Gillard in increasing her majority in the Parliament. Any more of this brilliance from Abbott and her majority will be 5.

In fact, you have been saying Abbott wont last long since the day he was appointed - and you've been wrong for a very long time

As much as I admire your ability to spin whatever I say into something it isn't, I said he was 'unelectable' when he became leader and so far I've been right.

I've also said he'll be chucked out by the Libs, when he was riding high, and I think I'm on the way to being proved right.

More to the point, I've been reading all year that the PM would be chucked out well before now and she's still there, with a bigger majority.

Andrew Bolt has told me that several times this year and he's always right ;)

Whilst I detest Abbott as a opportunistic politician devoid of any ethics, conviction or policy, I'm not sure anyone has been proved right or otherwise regarding his quest to become PM yet.

In fact, unfortunately he's odds on to become the next PM and that situation doesn't seem to be changing much soon.

Of course, this is all academic until the next election is played out.

Yes, nobody has been proved right yet.

I'd say the Libs are odds on to win the next election, but I don't think that transfers to Abbott.

We're all just giving opinions, that's the fun of it.

Think the issue with the Liberals is who would replace Abbott, Turnbull has burned his bridges with one of the factions and is likely to be regarded as punting to heavilly towards the left by the factions, and the list of likely candidates falls away pretty rapidly from then on, leading to the point where someone who is largely unknown would have to have a go and likely struggle to get the numbers.

Ho hum - spin  Interest rates drop because of the great government

Seriously, you'd cake $hit with chocolate and try to get Haigs to sell it
The worse thing is I actually think you believe your rhetoric - I'm glad I have a sensible financial planner who is non-political

Jimmy, leave the financial planner and see someone to stop you eating lemons all day ;)

Then join a debating society to learn to stop abusing people instead of debating.

I'm not a financial planner either, so get the debating society to teach you to stick to the facts :?

Lighten up a bit, mate, we're all just giving opinions, it's a political forum and we all have different opnions.

If you don't like mine, I'll see if I can find some others ;)

I liked this one as it sums up the process succinctly.
Slipper was under pressure to resign from the Liberal Party over his behaviour.
Then he negotiated a deal that means his transgressions will not be pursued further.
