the main thing Slipper has to worry about at the moment is how to explain this all to the missus ...

Peter Slipper and the various allegations against him are soley the responsability of the Australian Labor Party. They wanted him, and clearly its obvious why there was so little protest from Tony Abbott to let him go! :D His LNP branch were challenging his pre-selection and the ALP just had to have him to give them another number on the floor of the house so that they could shaft Wilkie and all the promises made to him - which they did accordingly.

The funniest thing about this whole scenario is what would have happened if the ALP left him where he was and did the digging themselves and used it to dump a bucket on Tony Abbott instead of turning up to parliament this morning having given themselves yet another punch in the face and credibility slap to the remaining 27% without Abbott having to lift a finger towards it.

Where's Swan - I thought he was due back from overseas on Sunday? If so, he's the acting PM while Gillard is away. Why hasn't he been talking about this? Instead, as a measure of how concerned they appear to be in the ALP, they've rolled Albanese. FWIW he did a pretty good jon IMHO at pointing out that Slipper's vote for Abbott was crucial in the leadership ballot given Abbott won by one vote; that Abbott went to Slipper's wedding; and there might have been one other punch there too. A few weeks ago Albanese was in tears announcing he would vote for Rudd in the ALP leadership contest. Now Julia has him fighting in the trenches for her! Probably a very smart move to let Swan overcome his jet lag and plan his next line to use about Twiggy or Clive and not wade into this mess.

On ch 7 News tonight, they showed a clip from Abbott this morning on Sunrise, saying that whilst the Libs were planning on getting rid of Slipper, the Govt appointed him speaker.

They then showed a clip from Sept 2011, showing Abbott defending Slipper and implying he was to remain a part of their team. Not sure what he's put in writing re Slipper, so not sure what we can believe.

Not trying to defend the ALP, and Gillard who show diabolical political judgement in so many ways. Just showing that whatever Abbott says about the ALP being hypocrites, there's usually something just as easily dug up that shows him in a similar light.

Yet there were never any charges nor allegations made against Slipper as there are in the current situation, leading the LNP to raise the bar on what they apparently "would have done" if that were the case. - hence the luxury of being in the opposition, much like the ALP and Mal Colston who they were going to pursue for as long as it took....

The sad fact is that in spite of all his personal frailties Slipper was a pretty good Speaker. The popular drop kick Harry Jenkins never put the the squeeze on Gillard or any of her ministers to be direct when answering questions in the house. Slipper did.

And that probably indicates what is obvious to most of us - the speaker should be non political as much as practicable, whether that be an MP who isn't ALP or coalition aligned..or a non MP chosen for the role.

Oh yeah I agree. The speaker should be neutral like the umpire in a footy match. Will never happen

Perhaps if we ever got a directly elected President whose role was more like an Ombudsman looking after our civil rights, one of their roles could be appointing an independent Speaker who was not able to be sacked by the party in power but only by the President, and who could thus make the MPs stick to the point rather than campaign and propagandise in the House..
That would take a lot of the bullshit out of Parliament.. 8)

Slipper is an ordained priest? ... well, he's in the poo now, so to speak.

Has to explain it all to the Big Fella as well as the missus.

Meantime the other hot one proceeds, even if slowly: http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/lat ... t-private/
Lawyers for embattled Labor MP Craig Thomson have asked a senate committee not to publish Fair Work Australia's report into the Health Services Union.
Mr Thomson had previously said he had nothing to hide, but his legal team is now arguing the release of the report could prejudice any legal action taken against him.

LOL, Slipper tries to clear his name by releasing selective cab receipts but they raise more questions ... it's not looking good for him now.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/exiled-sl ... 6336582313

EMBATTLED Speaker Peter Slipper has described as a "complete fabrication" claims that he misused Cabcharge dockets.

Mr Slipper released his personal records on Thursday in a bid to prove his innocence.
As key independent and Government MPs hardened their view against his return to the Speaker's role, Mr Slipper said the handwritten vouchers were "completed by me and are clearly in my handwriting".

But Australia's leading forensic handwriting specialist, Paul Westwood, said a "preliminary assessment" of the reproduced documents suggested the signatures were "highly variable".

This is starting to gather some momentum. Usually false claims don't gain traction like this. I wonder whether Slipper and Thompson are both in trouble here. If this happens we could see an election very soon. If that happens, Labor would be decimated like never before at federal level.
