Given the supply he would likely receive, it wouldn't matter if Steven Silvagni was on him, he will still be good for 2-3 goals a game, more than most forwards average. I think he he 31.

People also forget he was Happy Valley's leading goal kicker in 2008. Div 2 standard? If he can be an equivalent to a Div 2 clubs leading goal kicker I don't think it's unfair to assume he could slot into a forward pocket in a Div 1 side and be a solid contributor.

I think its fair to assume he may slot into a forward pocket but you are talking about 1 player. 95% or higher of the division wouldn't make a Div 1 Side

I would say about 90%, but I agree with your principle.

EDIT: Just to calc that out, 21* 10 * 0.1 = 21 players in Div 6 capable of playing Div 1 footy or about 2-3 players per side.

What did that morell bloke say again?:

Morrell, why does your player rating out of 10 go up to 12? Is that for special outstanding players like me? Am i a 12/10?!?

haha, just forgot to remove that from the axis labels, my bad, but I think there is scope there to use those extra points for players lacking in ability but make up for it with looks and charm....

So no. You are not a 12/10.

A page or so back, you said that your side in D7 would have about 5 players that would walk into a D1 side. Maybe into an injury ravaged one resigned to relegation toward the end of the year. There are some good players in these grades sure, but very few could walk into a D1 or D2 side. Would take a bit of work in preseason I'd reckon. Even then, as someone else pointed out previously, a Gaza, Henley, or SPOC (etc) would have high quality in every position, and great depth...it would be hard to just walk into their club and take someone elses spot.

Indeed, we have recruited very well and are going OK. 8)

MP players who could crack div 1, IMO:

Troy Pots
Luke McDonnell
Nat McDonnell
Michael Mazey
Steve Logan

Jarrad Daish at a stretch.

I would suggest about 10%. About 1 or 2 from the mediocre sides and 3 or 4 from the good ones.

This is the thing people keep forgetting:

This. Has. Already. Occurred.

Players from Div 5, 6 and 7 have moved into Div 1 and 2 and performed exceedingly well. I will reiterate the main point again. The top few players in teams in the lower divisions are as good as any player you will find up and down the SAAFL. The predominate reason behind why clubs are in the lower grades is because of the lack of depth of talent, once you get past this first few it drops away quite quickly. If you cop an injury to a key player you're stuffed. The teams in the higher ups can cover losses, can cover form drops, can ensure every man on the ground is fit, motivated, has been at training, has done a pre-season etc.

lutz wrote:Would take a bit of work in preseason I'd reckon.
This I agree with.

Hard, perhaps, but it could very easily happen.

You're full on crazy if you think Luke McDonnell couldn't slot into a Div 1 side tomorrow. I know of players, right now, playing Div 1, that are nowhere near as capable a footballer as Luke is.

At the end of the day you can only base it on what a player has actually done, not what he might  have been or be capable of doing.

OK, he has lead Happy Valley's goal kicking for a season.

That enough to prove to me he is capable of playing Div 1.

For arguements sake.. what would be the point value of a player in Div 6 or 7 going to Div 1?

Perhaps it could be of greater benefit for these higher grade clubs to raid the lower grades to save on points but still acquire quality footballers whose fitness can be worked on?

Henceforth to be known as the Weekley-Boothey paradox as seemingly neither of those players have actually moved into the higher grades, contrary to all evidence.

Had a settled 21 for the first three rounds. Haven't had much luck with player availability since then, but the blokes picked have still got to get the job done and be prepared to work hard for wins.

Why is it such a big deal that you need to convince everyone that MP and other low ranked sides have good players that could play higher?? No sh!t you have players who could play higher, every club does, they are called the 'good players', you also have stinking players who could play lower. How boring would football be if the best 210 players played D1, the next best 210 playeed D2 etc.

But in the end who cares, they play D7, not D1.

You do sound however like you have an over inflated view of the players at your club.

Exactly, thanks for agreeing. Please assist in explaining this principle to others and they have seemingly misunderstood my postings.

As for the veracity of my debate, only trying to match the ignorance demonstrated.

Jetters wrote:You do sound however like you have an over inflated view of the players at your club.
Not at all. You have apparently missed the part where I said we would have players that wouldn't get anywhere near a Div 1 R side playing A grade.

Ask Yank Man if he reckons I overrate Mitchell Park. If anything I go too far the other way. ;)

SHOC's C grade in Div 7 were better than the B grade in Div 1 res who only lost 2 games all year - mainly cause alot of players didnt like playing under the coach. I have seen some great footy this year from some very good players in Div 6 and do you think Uni's C grade is full of C graders? I dont think so! Since the SANFL abolished the u/17 & u/19 system more young players just move on to the local clubs. Some developed later and that 2nd year of u/19's was enough to propel them onto bigger and better things. But that opportunity got removed thanks to one - B Phillips!

I knew it! :(

Went both ways riddler - the b grade coach couldnt identify the good players that flash had in his team. By finals time they had built a bond and werent going to split up. You faced a bloody good side in the granny - interesting that none of the premiership team have played Div 7 this year. The majority are playing A grade footy somewhere for a new club.

Mate, you have absolutely no clue. The B grade had better players than the C grade, dont know what ur on about. If you look at the B grade GF side, if you know so much, name me 1 player who didnt deserve to be in that B grade side? Sorry riddler, you did play SHOCs C grade in the GF.
Majority are playing A grade somewhere else? Try 2 blokes (zac ellis and sam marshall) who are playing somewhere else at kenilworth and clg. Dont make me state facts!
