Of interest may be the interview with Tommy Hafey conducted this week during his visit to Echunga.
Can be heard in the Huddle on www.spreaker.com/user/huddle

Pistols and Goldy building up quite a good show with their weekly Hills sports and footy podcast ... worth a listen ;) ;)

Anyone have an opinion on this? I have been told a player walked into Nairne earlier this year (he moved into the town but is about to move back to the city) and just before round 1 signed a 2011 (not 2012) contract for minimal money, and was never given a copy of the contract. Because he is moving back to the city, and didn't really enjoy playing in the Hills, he has asked for a clearance back to his old club in amateur league. Nairne have refused his clearance & are happy for him to stay out of footy for this year. Is this what Community footy is about? If any player isn't happy at your club would you hold up a clearance if not playing in the same competition? Just curious..I know there is a contract signed but is that what it's really about, given Nairne spent no time recruiting him because he just walked into the club?

If he was willing to hand back any money he received then I would clear him. but when you sign a contract and you are willing to take money off a club for playing football, then you have to accept some level of responsibility which means seeing out the contract.
Nairne could've used that money to recruit another player at the start of the year had they known, and they've got buckley's chance of trying to recruit a player at this stage of the season to cover him.

Why would a player sign a 2011 contract when they walked into a club earlier this year in 2012? If he's played games, has he paid his subs? Does he owe any money for socks, shorts, etc? Sounds like the usual crap to me. He should pay his dues then apply again.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

player in question was paid to play, no sign on fee, owes nothing & wasn't on the Club's radar until he walked into the club asking for a game of footy so it's not like they spent time & resources chasing him - he just lived locally and didn't want to travel to the city 3 times a week . Nairne have said it wants to make an example of him. What does that mean? Community footy or AFL? - make a bloke stand out of footy because he made a mistake and is moving back to Adelaide. Maybe Nairne committee might want to see how its affecting the bloke. Sorry, but can't see any sense in this.

Personally, I dont feel sorry for any player walking into a club and demanding cash to play footy.

Mercenaries are killing country footy.

What about if it is the other way around? Clubs shouldn't be so foolish to throw dollars at a bloke who wanders in off the street

This really is silly, if a player owes money then he pays it back and gets cleared. If he moves out of town, changes jobs WHATEVER then clear him!

There's no point in 'making an example' because NO-ONE cares! NO-ONE says to themselves 'ooooh if we sign at Nairne we better stay forever because they made an example out of...' and I'm pretty sure Nairne wont be warning players of the 'example they've made in 2012' during their next recruiting phase.
Hey Nairne, concentrate on making the five with what you have and make an example by causing an upset against one of the top sides like Meadows did last year.

Now my last post leads me to something I've been pondering about a couple of country leagues that currently have one or two dominant teams.

Does anyone here want to tip an upset come finals time? Echunga out in straight sets? Kersbrook to miss GF? Birdwood to play Nairne?

Also is it true that Kangarilla are stacking their B'Grade??

Its time "champ" that you are made aware of the facts instead of making illinformed comments.

My Nairne informant tells me they recruited 3 players on contract who then decided preseason that they had a change of mind/circumstanes/whatever. Nairne recleared these players even though it affected their recuiting plans as they where unable to recruit replacements for these players. I have checked the clearance list and this appears correct. No wonder when the next contracted player asked for a clearance they decided to make a stand. A contract is a contract and Nairne are doing nothing different to Tailem Bend and other clubs have done already this year.

I believe Echunga will need a loss to someone if they are to win back to back (as a wake up call - although I think the close one out at Kersbrook shook them up a little). When they play their best football I honestly do not see anyone coming within 5 goals of them.

But This weekends game against Birdwood will be a good test to see where Birdwood are/will be (have they got some back now after their injuries at the start of the year?)

Meadows proved last year they can cause some upsets come finals time, and you dont want to be playing your best football this time of year, and fall short come September.

Hahaha Teams have stacked their B grade's for years if they do not look like they are going to make the A grade finals. Good luck to Kangy if that is what they are chasing!!!!
