Personal opinion, but i think it is time to bring back the REAL SAAFL state team. Whilst the under 23 has ben a good experiement, i think that you can not beat seeing the best players from not just the SAAFL but interstate leageus also going head to head. What do you think?????????????/[/u]

All costs big money but a biannual national shield would be great!!

wouldn't cost so much if it was only the players going- more officials on these trips than players. Under 23 comp has been a waste of time- wrong players chosen and not taken seriously by players in the league

I think we may have just agreed on something.. What a precious moment !!
Could not agree more with the officials comments. leave most of them back home and just take the playing group.
Most officials in it just for the free ride. Do bloody nothing !

you could probably still have an under 23 side play against the southern football league, but definately would prefer to see the best players in the league run around...

Bloody oath - the best players are usually over 23 and why should they be barred from representing their league. If you are going to have a concept such as this, have the best against the best!

Each U/23 side plays home and away over a three year cycle

e.g.

Year 1
SA-Vic
Vic-WA

Year 2
Vic-SA
WA-SA

Year 3
SA-WA
WA-Vic

Will there be a problem with the 23+ year old's not wanting to risk injury considering most are probably on $300 > $700 per game with their club sides??

for an average footballer I was lucky enough to play in a SAAFL rep team in about 95. It was definitely a highlight being picked. Unfortunately we didn't play the VAFA that year.

Certainly bring it back, it gives us real amateur's something to aim for.

It has to be done, the credibility of state football is up in the air at the moment, if we were to get the open age comp back, i reckon you would have more that just the Amatuer league spectators having a look, i think the Football Public would get right behind it. I think its time to let the Under 23 comp go.

Well gadj1976 you obviously didn't play in 1995 - i actually did and we smashed the West Australians at Goody Oval and then beat the Vics by about 2 goals at Elsternwick on a wet and rainy day. Probably one of the highlights of my footy life along with the other lads who played in that side.
And yes we are the last SAAFL side to beat the Vics - the Under 23's whilst a good concept is not the same - if you want the SAAFL to be the best comp and the A1 league undoubtedly still is - start working harder to beat the Vics and beat them in the main game, not an under age concept game.
