To call our b graders old men, laughable!!!! We have only a couple that r over 30! I suppose the real test will be see how far u get in finals with an independent umpire! Cheating only gets u so far!

they used to come in before the game and speak to the coach and players and you got a fair idea of what the afternoon would look like from an umpires dessicion point of view
always believed this helped alot
both from a umpires point and then for players and coaches who could work out how the game would be umpired do they still do this
if not i wonder how many coaches make themselves known to the umpires before the game and ask the question, mighten help but it wouldnt make it worst i would believe

expecting a great game tomorrow versus the cats who we rate very highly..it was a very close tussle last time..the ground is in good condition..we have 4-5 out injured including a couple of midfielders but i note the cats have 3-4 out themselves so its all evened up..we still need 3 wins i believe and if we lose tomorrow its back into the pack..the battle for top spot in the B grade will be a high quality game as well..
lakers and farmers will be very interesting but maybe the home ground advantage will help riddlers boys..will be tight..
expect BOS to defeat uni reasonably easily..
a fired up units await the demons at mofflin and this will be a torrid affair..demons dont want to lose 3 in a row and the units cant afford to drop this one or its probably over for 2012 but who knows in this up and down competition..leaning to careys mob in this one with the return of woodward..
TOS should win by 8-12 goals and stay in the fight for the final 5 as long as they can get their feet out of the deep mud at the snakepit
good luck to all..

Why sould this happen? Should then the coaches and players go into the umpires room and go through structures and explain how they are going to play. Deeman. Turn it up

I've refereed rugby league games at club amd state level and I do this, I chat to teams before games so they know who is in charge and I wish them best of luck but also so I make them away of key areas i will be targeting during the game and be hot on.It just reinforces to the players your expectations of them and makes them aware that they won't be able to get away with crap.
It also helps build a rapport with players which is important.
If your a honest, consistent official they will respect you more as well and youd be suprised how much smoother things go.

One problem with umpires giving the pre-match talk - it just gives the players something else to moan about
But you said blah, blah blah.......
I was at a GSFL game on Saturday and yelled out during the B Grade "why dont you blokes try playing footy instead of trying to umpire"
I cant understand how our game struggles to get umpires when there are 5,000 of them on the field every Saturday

Woody Sth up all day until 1min left when CLG snatched the lead. BUT FOR SOME REASON TRUE OR NOT, the final siren blew 45sec too early when the ball was to be thrown in in WS forward 50, right near the behind post. Some confusion and even the umpire agreed it was blown too early!!!
The umpire was going to make an official report about the incident.
The umpiring for that game was average, both umpires made woeful decisions, but i did think that CLG umpire was the worse of the 2!
So that now leaves CLG clear at the top with WS sitting 2nd.
Now onto the A grade, well umpired for most, couple little woeful decisions but you get that. WS lead for most if not all of the day and would get themselves into a comfy lead (5-6 goals) but CLG would always chip away and fight back to within a few points. WS couldnt seem to put CLG away. Cliffford was OUTSTANDING today kicking 8, he gave the CLG DEFENSE A BATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fullback couldnt compete with bomber in the air. Stubby was also very good kicking 5. Harding was good across half back today for WS.
yeah gr8 coverage of the the game you knob - the CLG b's were down by 6 goals and slowly pegged back the lead and hit the front with 2 minutes to go. Woody sth team of old men fell in a hole and didnt deserve to win in the end - the behaviour of your umpire was a disgrace - lose with some dignity!! The A's was a cracking game and probably the better team didnt win in the end - bad kicking is bad footy - ask bomber who the best team they have played this year and he will say CLG!
