Not the best draw for the Roos. Only 2 home games in the first 7 rounds and then mid year we only play 2 game in a month and a bit.

Quick question- how much do you think a coach should be getting payed in the SFL?

I reckon $10k would be around the mark. Equates to about $250 a week across a 40 week year

Yeh that's what I thought! And let's say, if the coach was on more then that and wanted a pay rise, what sort of results would you be looking at getting in return?

I would've thought coaches in the SFL would get more than that. There would be some coaches getting a lot more coin in the SAAFL

You're probably right but the question is what should they get paid, not what some actually get paid.

There would be some coaches getting more than $10K who fully deserve and more importantly earn it, but there would also be a heap of coaches asking for (and getting) much more than their coaching abilities are worth. I guess it's up to the club whether they are willing, or able, to pay the big figures to get these "good" coaches.

With the DRAFT draw just released, which clubs based on gate/bbq/bar/canteen do you want as a home game?

Ill have a crack
1 M/Vale
2 Reynella
3 Port Noarlunga
4 H/Valley
5 C/Beach
6 F/Hill
7 Cove
8 Aldinga
9 Hackham
10 Lonsdale
11 Brighton
12 E/Town
13 Marion
14 M/Parks
These are sides based on our financials over pased 4 years! from 1-7 they are close but 11-14 shockers and is it a coincidence these sides have a SAAFL background??

Just something to discuss :D

Interesting analysis :) Not sure about the SAAFL background theory tho, pretty sure Marion never were in SAAFL.

Your bottom 4 Shoe Boy also happen to be the clubs furthest away from Old Noarlunga so I think your theory is a bit narrow. It's often only the true Noarlunga faithful that travel to Brighton compared with the excellent support you usually get at home. At least we buy your grog at the Shoe. Most of your blokes (including senior club figures) think Brighton is a BYO venue.

In season 2013 Cove are going to reserve a spot for the 3 brighton faithful who travel 7.5 minutes up the hill in the brighton pedi cab.

Good to see the Vikings new recruit Flash Gordon looking to shake his 'soft' tag this early in the season I believe he has been eating a strict daly diet of a teaspoon of concrete to harden up!!

Good discussion shoe boy, ranking tends to vary depending on how the relative clubs are performing but there seems to be 4 distinct groups.

The Old Bloc Clubs
Noarlunga, Reynella, Port Noarlunga, Morphett Vale & Christies Beach

Games between these clubs always attract a crowd, all 5 clubs tend to provide a good day wherever they visit, however they are performing.

The Early 80s Expansion Clubs
Happy Valley, Flagstaff Hill and more recently Cove

Always have a full set of teams and good support. The first two, established clubs that joined the league. Cove have moved into this group from the third group over the past 10 years.

The 70s-80s Start-up Clubs
Aldinga, Hackham, O'Sullivan Beach-Lonsdale

All were part of the population expansion in the 70s that led to new clubs forming (Hackham, O'Sullivan Beach, Mawson, Cove) or re-forming (Aldinga) and starting in the old Division 2 comp. Recent performances, and struggles with filling junior grades (although improving) have an impact on the crowds they draw.

The Glenelg-South Clubs
Marion, Morphettville Park, Brighton Bombers, Edwardstown (+ previously Plympton & Mitchell Park)

Have joined gradually since 1987 but come from the more "Parklands Footy" style of competition. Don't seem to have the same culture as the "semi-country style" clubs, don't draw a crowd away, and smaller boutique style crowds at home.

Please explain what you mean by that???? And what facts that support that??? Just curious to know your thoughts. I'm not at all having a go or trying to start an argument. Just interested... Considering i support a club in that group.

Byron Murphy is a very good acquisition. Where did he play last year? Wouldn't be overly excited about Ruwoldt. By all reports struggled a bit in the BLG and will find it even tougher in the SFL.

Murphy will be a great, top lad also. He played in country Vic last year while living here, him and his partner got flown over every week.
Well done to Murph, tried to do the right thing and play for his home town in Country Vic last year, but a plane trip plus car trip every fortnight with a partner and a one year-old is a lot to ask. Will be an excellent get for Morphy Park, good bloke to boot.

woodublieve12 it is very hard to provide facts to support something that is my opinion based on my involvement within my club for 20 years, and only ever being involved in the one club so certainly I am looking from that perspective. My perception is that as you get closer to the city, the local ownership from those outside of the club seems to diminish. Whilst those actively involved with any club seem to share the similar level of passion wherever you go, there tends to be more committment from the local community to become supporters, as you drift further from the city, more of that tribal element. This is certainly something that is gradually diminishing from the Southern League as the area is becoming continuosly more suburban.

The other factor is the effect of the private schools on those inner-suburban clubs. The Saturday schoolboy competition is killing saturday club football in Adelaide, relegating junior football instead to a Sunday afterthought competition. This has yet to be felt as strongly in the outer suburbs, hence why the Southern League has been able to maintain its Saturday football competition (which increases crown numbers), but difficulties are certainly felt by our northern competitors (which is that Glenelg-South Group). School footy is forcing the kids to prioritise their loyalty to their school rather than their club, which sadly will likely to lead to the demise of some great district clubs. Example can already be seen where once minor Old Scholar teams such as Sacred Heart, Rostrevor, Ignatious, and even Princes & Saints are some of the strongest metropolitan clubs whilst clubs such as Glenunga, Plympton, Mitchell Park, Hectorville bounce around in the lower divisions & Magill Royals, Kensington, Glandore & the like no longer exist.
