Throw in a missed penalty by CCM and an own goal on behalf of MV. Only saw the game from around 50 mins and looked for the remainder of the game like one of those occasions where a team looked capable of scoring every time it attacked. MV will put it down as one of those games with some key personnel missing, they'll be back but have to sort out their defense in a hurry

And one of the Victory's goals was an own goal for the CCM!
Should have been about 8-1!
A huge improvement on the game in Tas not that long ago.
Love the Duke! :D
Hard stretch for the CCM with Asian matches midweek but a huge game next week against the Wanderers for top spot.

I think it would be one of the success stories of sport in this country if WSW got up for a flag as a first year team in a national sport. I know it's only soccer, but compare WSW to Sheedy's GWS. How did they go in their first year?

Unfair to compare. I could put together an indoor cricket side that would win a flag straight away but the AFL might be a bit more difficult.

How can you compare winning a flag in a major national competition vs a pretend surburban sport. I dont see indoor cricket televised and promoting any player getting paid $2m+ for a seasons work.
From some loose research, no team anywhere around the world has won a national competition of a global sport in their debut year.
There is no real reason why A League should be different to AFL. Both are salary capped and WSW and GWS have both built teams from scratch in the same Western Sydney area and both have the same demographic to work with.

Hard to compare because you only need 4-5 good players in a soccer team to do well where as in the AFL you need atleast a dozen just to be competetive.
Very hard to start a team from scratch in the AFL when you can only pick up a few stars and the rest are kids.
Starting an A-League side is far easier, recruit a couple of good imports and get a mix of seasoned players and youngsters from other clubs. Nearly all of WSW's squad had prior A-League experience compared to probably only 10-20% at GWS who had played AFL

Central Coast drew nil all with some Asian team in the ACL last night. Couldn't tell you the other teams name as have absolutely no interest in the comp. I noticed CC started the Duke and Ibini on the bench too so they're obviously not overly concerned with it either.
Hopefully a good training run for the HUGE game coming up on Saturday against WSW.

Frustrating to watch the CCM v WSW game with CCM missing a penalty for the 4th time in a row, getting so desperate we had Matt Ryan take it, funny watching him sprint as fast as he could back to the other end after the save. We also hit the cross bar with a ball bouncing down almost over the line. We dominated possession but if you don't take your chances it doesn't matter.
Great turnout by the WSW crowd, it was like a home game for them!
Funny when the ground announcer would occasionally say "Let's hear a cheer for our Central Coast Mariners" followed by an almighty boo.
Doesn't get much easier with Sydney in Sydney next week.
Del Piero scored an absolute cracker in their 2-1 loss last night.
