What is a joke is the scorelines over last decade
Morphett Vale finished 10th last season, prior to that top four going back at least to 2004 (including 5 premierships)
Edwardstown finished 9th last season, top 4 in 2009
Flagstaff Hill finished 8th last season, top 4 in previous season
Cove finished 9th in 2011, top 6 following season, top 4 previous season, premiers 2008
Morphettville Park finished 8th in 2011, top 4 following season
Noarlunga finished 9th in 2010, Port Noarlunga 10th in 2010, do you want me to keep going?
There was 1 game separating the teams from 7th to 11th last year, some of those teams beat teams in the top 4 during the season. How many other competitions can you find where there are 11 teams competitive with each other?
We should not destroy 3-4 clubs by sticking them in a lesser comp just so a few can feel more "elite".
We have clubs at the top whinging about having to pay 4-5 games a year that they consider "uncompetitive". Two divisions will be great for them, just because of where they are fortunate enough to be in the current cycle. What about those teams on the edge who will now have to play 12-13 so called "uncompetitive" games rather than just the 4-5, all for the massive crime of winning one or half of a game less than the two teams at 7th and 8th?
There will still be big scores, just some clubs will be the unwilling sacrifices to appease a few clubs.
Here is a thought which might upset a few people however please know it is not my intention. This is just a thought for discussion not an opinion.
For the last two years there has only been a couple of games that teams outside the 8 have just missed out (up to 11th position). I can't look back any further than this.
Why not Aldinga join the great southern league & Lonsdale Lions merge with Hackham? We could reduce the teams to 13, would not need two divisions or the ridiculous north/south idea!
Please don't get offended Lonsdale just think you would have great facilities at hackham, a great deck to play on & have the potential to play finals sooner with all the great junior kids coming through at Hackham. Hackham Lions sounds like a good team name for 2014.
I could see the competition becoming stronger, beachies are pushing teams, marion is improving upwards, would make getting into the 8 even harder.
Any thoughts on this idea?
