Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

If Mr Rudd wins the election and immediately raises the gst to 12.5% will that be better or worse than: stating to the electorate that you do not have a gst on the agenda, winning office, getting into bed with the democrats and establishing one? :?

Was that the one Paul Keating first proposed?

Rudd has ordered the 6 state premiers to block any Howard initiatives running into the election. Hardly surprising.

ALP policy is that if they were to win office and subsequently win a second term, they would increase GST to 12.5%.

The sudden backflip by Rann over School Workcover levys and Paramedic wages was ordered, quite agressively, by Rudd.

If we're going to have a reasonable debate, how about fewer nonsense statements like increasing the GST to 12.5%.

If I'm wrong, what's your source for this, apart from a guess?

I will not publicly name the source, some discretion is required. Suffice to say it is an exceptionally reliable source.

PM me if you really have to know, but it will have to remain off the boards.

So you think I should name a current Federal ALP politician and jeopardise this site?

Get off your soap box.

Yes, I do think you should name him or her.

Biggest beat-up of all time.

Sounds pretty irresponsible for a mod to call on that. You believe what you wish, as will I.

Forgot to address the last line of your latest post...

Where is the beat up? I posted some info I thought fit in this thread and some people read it. You don't believe it.

No beating up. Perhaps a little beating off*, but no beating up.

It wasn't irresponsible, smac, because I think you've been had.

Nobody in their right mind would think that this was even remotely on the drawing board. It would be a suicide note for their electoral chances, and it isn't necessary. The Government is already rolling in money.

I stand by what I said. In my opinion, it's total nonsense. If there was anything in it, it would be all over the media.

I find it impossible to believe that of all the people in Australia, you are one of the few who has been told this.

I hope that is a more considered answer for you. :)

If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt that it isn't, as Keating won an election on a no GST platform, then promptly raised taxes within months of his re-election, there was no mention of raising other taxes during the election campaign by Keating, but no doubt this move was planned long before. State premiers including Mediocre Mike are always pleading poverty, they wouldn't say no to an extra 2.5%. If federal Labor is elected and all States and territories with Labor governments what is there to stop it? Do you really trust Rudd, Gillard, Garrett, Mediocre Mike, Bracks, Iemma etc. that much? one thing that can be guarranteed ABSOLUTELY the GST will stay at 10% if Howard is re-elected, not because he is any more honest than the others, it just can't be done. Sounds like a good line for an election scare campign

This is a wonderful example of how a nonsensical argument takes on a life of its own.

I've heard that John Howard is going to abolish the age pension if he's re-elected. I've got no reason to doubt it.

Give me a break.

smac, how about you message me with the politician's name and I'll phone his office and ask him directly (without mentioning anything about you)?

PM sent mate.

As I said in the PM, I doubt they will show their hand on policies for a second term in office when they haven't even won their first term.

But go your hardest on the phone call.

Oh but I am and quite proud of it too. Saw the light as a young man brought up in a very strict lutheran and labor family. You know the type, never touch a drop, never have (ahhh sex) unless its for conception.

I have several generations of depressive non drinking, non laughing, non loving lefties to make up for. If you look at my avitar its not flattering as I am only 26, but it sure beats the hell out of the alternative. Now if the phrase "black sheep" comes to mind? :prayer:

Years ago I went to a Christmas party at the McLeay family home in Unley - the "Mcleays wouldn't stock a red carpet!" - Sir John McLeay's family.

While I was there a guy came up and introduced himself saying, "I'm the red sheep of the family."
