I don't know about that stat but this is the third time Ashwin has made a hundred and taken a five wicket haul in test cricket, Ian Botham has done the most at five times.

There are 3 players who made a century and taken 10 wickets in a test.
1. Ian Botham
2. Imran Khan
3. Shakib Al Hassan
Alan Davidson took 10 wickets and made more than a hundred runs, but he didn't make a century in an innings.
Can Ashwin be the 4th?
Botham did it 5 times
Ashwin is now 2nd on the list with 3
Jaques kallis did it twice along with Shakib Al Hasan, Mushtaq Mohammed and Sir Garfield Sobers

17 others have done it once

I only saw one hour so perhaps I have judged him unfairly on a limited sample size.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

I think they took the punt that England wouldn't be able to handle a dust bowl and that they would fair much better.

Turns out to be the right move for them. Going to see some ugly pitches going forward in this series now.

There's been nothing but praise in the media (and also now on here) for Foakes during this test, did miss a few balls yesterday but overall he's been very good. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him standing up to the stumps when Broad was bowling haha, wasn't as clean as he had been but that was nuts.

I do agree with you about Burns though and I think it was discussed on here during the 2019 Ashes, geez he's hard to watch, so awkward.

Same venue as the first test, same curator, same dust bowl.
But India won the toss.
If the POM's won it then they'd be 2 nil up by the end of today's play.
Risky business!

I think the result would be the same. The English spinners are pie chuckers and Ashwin would have cleaned England up on Day 1

Yeah agree with that. It's more of a dust bowl than the first test. Almost like they just rolled it and used it again.

You really can't compare Ashwin to Ali for example.

It is the same venue and the same curator, but when you look at the square, the pitch they used in the first test is a reddish brown colour, so I wonder if it has a different type of clay to the current pitch.

Wasnt sure were to put this so here will do.

In the SA T20 comp last night, needing 16 off the last 3 balls - hits next 2 balls for 6, so 4 off the last, bowler hits a perfect yorker which gives the bat no chance only for the ump to call a front foot no ball, so 3 off the last ball is now the equation, ball is pretty good again but the bat gets it to the mid wicket boundary where it is mis-fielded and goes for 4, crazy
