he got a payout thru victims of crime, but it is capped at a certain amount, this capping may reduce as these incidents increase I dare say

Is anyone ever blameless in these situations? And by asking this I'm not casting aspersions on this poor young fella that's had the cr*p belted out of him.
But if you're there, and if you're drinking or around people drinking you increase the chance of something like that happening.
It's like being in a car accident - by being there, you've caused part of the problem. And that's how insurance parties view it.
Are we going to see this sort of reasoning introduced soon in insurance pay outs? As these sort of incidents continue to escalate, insurance companies are going to want to pay less money out, this might be a way around it...
This is a societal question, rather than a question relating to this incident.

Anyone no matter where they are or what time of the day or night is, can just be minding their own business and get hit these days for no reason.

My intention in the question above was not intended to blame him.
As I said it's a look at where society might be heading as a result of incidents like this.

Waiting for something to start.
It's a growing trend.
Last friday night i was waiting in a taxi stand and some poor bloke got knocked out cold by a king hit.
Just thought to myself that i could just be me next time.

I used to work at Jules and remember one NYE where the head bouncer wouldn't let a guy in because of his shoes, he came back half an hour later with half a dozen mates with baseball bats and belted the living suitcase out of him. Cant remember if he ever went back to work there.
Also remember seeing one of the Royal Admiral dancers getting harrased in the car park next to the Big Ticket one night(morning), luckily a couple of the bouncers came to her aid, or she could have being raped.
I don't ever remember having as many "gangs" around then like there are today though, drive by's were unheard of.. There is no way you would catch me near any establishment in the west end (bar the casino) on a Saturday night nowadays.

So I'm guessing that if I'm planning a trip to Adelaide in the not too distant future I should avoid hotels recommended in guide books in the Hindley St area, especially as I'd be travelling alone. Hmmmm that's quite a few off the 'potential' list
Anywhere else in the city that I should actively avoid ????
