Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated

Not quite 2000 printed first up Spell Check ... There are about 400 about the place now.

Depending on sales this weekend I will do a new batch early next week.

As for the scores the very first thing I did for this a couple of years ago were all the scores 1907 to 2005.

However when my source docs were checked against Ecky's and Spell Checks source docs there were a lot of differences and it was left off for this year.

Maybe that's something that could be sorted out in future issues in years ahead.

I was thinking about the number that are to be printed, but you're right, AH asked how many "were" printed.

Great to hear Phil on 5AA tonight promoting the book.
Cornsey & KG seemed more intent on going over the fact the book wasn't bound like an Encylopedia but when they let Phil talk about it a bit more it came over a treat. Once they started talking about the conent they were said how impressive the data that Phil had compiled was.
Even gave this site a plug in his spiel about where to purchase it.
Well done Phil!

I became the proud owner of a copy this afternoon and am currently pouring through all the information. Statistically, it didn't tell me a lot I didn't already know, but I am willing to bet 99% of footy supporters wouldn't be so statistically aware. What I am enjoying the most are the write ups in the first 50-odd pages, and the Hall of Fame profiles are fantastic.

Well done PhilH and all the other contributors, a valuable contribution to football. The SANFL history is a fabulous one, and every endeavour to spread the word is much appreciated. As someone said earlier, all we need now is some people in the print media to realise the SANFL has a lot to offer REAL football fans.

Picked up my copy from the Budget seller at Richmond.

Best $20 I've spent for a while, and certainly better value than the three alleged "pints" I bought from the Tap Inn later that night that cost slightly more.

Phil (and all the other contributors) it is a fantastic little book and you should all be well and truly proud of your efforts!

I'd like to offer my services as a proof-reader for the next one though...

You noticed the errors as well huh? Oh well, when you consider how much info was condensed in the publication, it's not surprising there was the odd error.

I'd also like to ask if the 2005 statistics for each club are official SANFL stats (games and goals) or each club's stats.

Picked mine up last week. Great value and a great read. Really well done.
My biggest problem is with the history of North (funnily enough). The North of today in no way has anything to do with the North Adelaide of 1883 or 1888 (or Hotham for that matter). Not that I blame the author as it seems to be an amalgamate of various publications that have previously (incorrectly) published the history of North Adelaide. Five paragraphs in all, so hardly anything to get worked up about compared with 240 pages! 8)

I find it amusing that plenty of people are happy to lay sh.t on the Advertiser each time they get a comma in the wrong place - and they only have a few hours to review the info before it goes to press - not weeks.

I'm really not sure what my comment has to do with "laying sh it on the Advertiser". :?

Sorry, it wasn't aimed at you.

Just a general observation that each time the Advertiser gets something wrong, some people are ready to pounce.

But when there are a few errors in the SA footy media guide, the line used is "oh well, it's understandable considering how much information it contains".

I think it just goes to show it's not that simple to produce anything error-free, whether it be a newspaper, a magazine or a media guide.

Jessica, 2 points.

1) I don't think this thread is the right place to discuss it.

2) The Media Guide was made by volunteers with all proceeds going to charity unlike people that get paid for a living to deliver information.

That's fair enough - in hindsight, I should have created a new thread on this one. Delete it if you like, I won't be offended.

Phil and co would have made every attempt to make sure the guide was error-free, but ultimately the learnt it's virtually impossible. I still think some people should think twice before laying sh.t on the Advertiser journos if they make a minor error. The Media Guide is proof it can happen very easily, despite the best of intentions.

Despite being a pepetrator (christ is that how you spell it?) in the past I agree with you to a degree, I don't think anyone should put shit on the journos that cover the SANFL but I still think the editors and people in charge of the Advertiser deserve a big kick up the arse at times IMHO.

I wrongly had a go at at least one journo in the past and have learnt a lot since talking to some of them and others in the know that I was wrong to did what I did.
Robbo, Zac, etc all have my full support. I just need to somehow give Ray Titus a kick in the guts so I can squeeze that SANFL photo of the year award away from him!
