Tait and MacGill in, Johnson and Hogg out IMO.

Tait is exactly the type of bowler the sub-continent nations have trouble with. He'll get 1-2 wickets an innings just through pace and bounce. Him in the side will allow Lee to become a more consistent bowler. Australia needs MacGill to play and play well. He is a much better bowler than Hogg. Glad they've picked Jacques as opener.

Will be an interesting summer. The Aussies should beat Sri Lanka 2-0 and should beat India as well. My tip is for S. Clark and Hussey to "average out" this summer.

I would prefer Hogg over MacGil, only because Hogg can bat and I just think he's better than MacGil

Macgill deserves to play. and he will play.his record speaks for it self if shane warne was around in another Decade he magilla would have 500 wickets to his name.

all the people saying you want hogg because his batting its rubbish because you have gilly at 7 and 9 times out of ten when Hogg bats the aussies will be atleast 350. and if you get lower scores you want a bowler who can rip through teams!!

Just ask yourself this question on a 5TH day turning pitch do you want a chinaman or a big spinning leg spinner????

I'd want the guy who is the better bowler and in this case there is no doubt whatsoever that the better bowler is Stuart MacGill.

Agreed 100% I don't understand how there's even a question mark over this have we forgotten the bags of wickets MacGill has taken at the highest level before?

MacGill is capable of 6-70, Hogg at best would go 3-90 .... that's the difference IMO

Granted, Hogg seems to have improved a lot over the last 18 months maybe he'll prove me wrong

Other than that, we have no idea what the make up of the bowling attack will be until the day. I do know that there is no way they'd be picking 2 spinners.

May be wrong but didn't they go in with two spinners either last test or the test before that up there, seem to remember some little outcry about it at the time

Very true, but one of those spinner happened to be SK Warne!!

Hogg nor MacGill for that matter can be mentioned in the same breath

Yeah, i'm sure this criteria will be taken into account

"I've got an old saying that you pick character over cover drives. If you want to play a long time in the baggy green cap you can't just be a good cover driver or a good leg spinner, you've got to have a lot more qualities than that"

maybe it will be taken into account

Well you seem to be judging from afar so why don't i do the same. You could hardly suggest SK Warne is a great bloke from all the here say.

If you know Stuart MacGill personally then fine but otherwise judging his character by here say is pretty ordinary IMHO.

Comes down to the fact that as good a bloke as George Hogg may be, as a bowler he is not SCG MacGill's ar*ehole.

clearly i dont know either macgill or "george". all im saying RR is that Langer obviously thought hoggs good character should be taken into account with the test selection- read into it what you want. if your gonna have a go at everyone on this site who has an opinion abut someone who they dont know your gonna be very busy and im sre youv done the same before. Anyway no point either of us getting worked up over it . play on?

Meeting MacGill in Darwin four years ago at a Test Match reception I was surprised at how good a bloke he is, as I too was aware of is reputation.

Down to earth up for a chat and make conversation rather than answer questions with anyone. I'll think you'll find that as a leggie, to add to his deceptions, he plays on his reputation as a bit of a psycho. I overheard him admitting as much dealing with Mike Hussey when he first came over to Northamptonshire to play county cricket.

He played the hard and crazy bloke knowing he'd have to bowl to Hussey next Australain season - just wanted to keep him on edge a bit.......

MacGill's allright
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Be interesting to see how Gil CHRIST will handle the Kandy Chucker
Brad Haddin will also be interested.

Im also worried about how HUSSEY fares up v Chucker as well.
HUSS a great player of pace but spin ?

AU V SL.
Most runs for the series HAYDEN.
Most wickets CLARK + CHUCKER dead heat.

Macgill deserves the spinners spot after years of waiting behing Warnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnney

all you people who think magilla is a tool should read jason gillespies book. it talks about how every one in the team loves him, and he sets up a bar after a test victory in the change room. he also says that he teaches players stuff about wine.
