I think the problem started soon after the 95/96 win when we lost a few of the better players for one reason of another. Nobes to work, Brayshaw to radio, Webber to injury, McIntyre to beer and food, Blewett to more national duties. Too many of the core of that team weren't replaced by able players and soon enough we were left with Blewett and Lehmann the only bats performing regularly and the bowlers coming and going after a promising season or two.
I think by the time we realised there was a problem it was already too late to do anything about it, and there was a time of 4-5 seasons where we were ok, but just treading water, and now people are expecting the SACA to change things each time things go wrong. We need to have a bit of faith in the SACA and let them just do what they think is right without expecting a head to roll each time we have a crap season. Let's assess the situation when the current plan is shown to be wrong. IE, if and when Cosgrove, Delmont, Borgas, Manou, Cullen, Bailey, Tait, Cameron, Plant, Adcock and the like get shown up as sub-standard state cricketers and not just inexperienced cricketers.

Only SACA Management can be blamed.
There is something that must be done, that has been overlooked...
Something is amiss with SACA.

And Australias performances at the Olympics where we can can consitantly outperform countries like Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, the UK, Canada etc in terms of medals. On a per head of population we out perform China, Russia and the US.
Success at the elite sport level is not based purely on popualtion (it is an important factor I'll grant you) but it can be overcome with good development programs, effective underpinning competitions (were SA is lacking IMO), good coaching, good admin, good talent ID and good support services.
Australia has the best high performacne sport models in the world no excuse for not getting the structures and frameworks in place to correct those.
