Before anyone thinks they're top stuff, I never said he should be dropped from our ODD team. Never.

Elliott must be in the Pura Cup team simply in the hope his one day form will carry over in the 4 day format.

I would like to agree, but we've been hoping this will be the case for 2.5 years.

Spelly is OTM

Why would you drop a guy capable of what Elliot has done in the Franger Cup?

It has to come good in the 4 day format sooner or later and from what I have heard in interviews his knee is now the best its been for 3 years

Time for mal to post some stats. He's been excellent in the Franger cup for years, but has never done anything in the Pura Cup. I keep thinking that his ODD form has got to pay off in the Pura Cup but it never happens.

Yep and time for me to once again point out that stats don't tell the whole story.

Ah okay cool, so his career high average with SA of 29 is getting the job done?

I don't think they do but seeing as you do show me someone with better stats to back up your argument. Boof is retired remember.

Plant should be given another oppertunity, averages below 20 but that's about the combined average of Elliot over the past 3 seasons. At 23 least he has room for improvement.

So you can't back up your argument with stats despite using them to start it?

I always thought I was a great cricketer but the stats didn't tell the true story

This is laughable. I would've thought a 36 y/o with a FC average of about 21 over the past 3 seasons wouldn't have many ppl sticking up for him, and yet here I am reading all this,.

Well you keep on telling us what a brilliant cricketer Watson is and how he should be in the Test team despite struggling to get out of bed without injuring himself, yet you are quick to slam Elliott who is still one of our best bats. Another brilliant knock today, I know you didn't ask for him to be dropped from the pyjama team but you can't drop a guy who smacks a big hundred in a one dayer.

No, you see your problem is you are trying to tell people Matthew Elliott should be dropped from the SA 4 day side based on stats yet you can't provide the name of a player who has better stats. That is laughable.

RR, that's the problem isn't it, and it's a blight on the state of cricket in SA. If Elliott was averaging 20 odd but there was someone making runs constantly under him and was a ready replacement, sure, move him on. But there isn't. So we have to persist, using him as a caretaker until that person avails themselves to selectors OR he starts making runs.
