All I can say to you former coach, is that if you are a fan of Chris Newman and his band of merry men, join them and help the club to get where you consider they should be. Nothing worse for a footy club to have than ex coaches praising the virtues of the wandering minority that stuff up clubs and walk away. The O F C don't have a good track record of coaching appointments in the past few years, premierships don't make a footy club, it's the quality of people they have to run the club and those who are employed by those people, coaches being an prime example. Premierships are a product of good decisions made by those people.Get off your soapbox and help them 'cause their gonna' need every bit of help they can get.
By the way, winning a premiership is great but it is normal practice for a club to offer the players their jumpers, it is not a given that they 'pinch' them as I believe was the case at Wingfield last season.

is benno still involved at ovingham?
i've played and coached against ovingham for many years in many different grades, the one constant was heather. she's many things, annoying, antagonistic among others but you couldn't ever fault her passion for the club.
it would be a shame to see them fold but i do believe that a grade clubs need to be in div 7 minimum.

Div10 South! Must of been so hard to coach!. If the club hasnt taken a step forward in all those years what happend when u coached them to a flag????

we went undefeated in 04 and i got sacked coz the club wanted to stay in the lower grades and i wanted to go div 7&7r in 05 so they got rid of me and when i left alot of players left with me,but from what ive heard alot of former players and new recruits are coming out again thanks to chris and the new committee

I'm tipping you got sacked cause you're an idiot.

G'day Finn,
This is Benno.Hows it going mate?Just wanted to drop you a line and explain where I'm coming from.I'm no longer involved at Ovingham.I live in Sydney these days but even if I did'nt,the fact that the club sacked me after 2004 means I probably would'nt be there anyway. That doesnt change the fact that I still love the club and want them to do well.Over the past three years I've kept in touch with Locky and still take a keen interest in the club. You are right when you say that you could'nt ever fault Heather's passion. She has been a wonderful servant of the club for many, many years, but that does'nt mean to say that her approach and idea's are the best way to take the club forward. It seems as though new people have come to the club at the request of the comittee and noticed straight away that things need to change for the club to improve and get stronger through the grades, which is exactly what I said myself after the 2004 season. It's embarrassing for the club to have been in Div 10 for all these years and the blame for that lays squarley at the feet of the comittee, which Heather has always controlled. Many quality players have left the club over the last few years because there has never been any effort made by the comittee to become bigger and better. They seem to be happy to be in Div 10 with one team and that is just not good enough.I hope for the clubs sake that Heather can swallow a bit of pride and return.Perhaps concessions need to be made on both sides for this to happen, and for the club to become strong.I do know that the club has'nt gone forward over the past seven years and something was bound to give.Tell me, are you coaching this year?If so which grade.
Anyway, I look forward to reading your posts and wish you all the best for the year.

04 Premiership Coach aka Benno, I do know you as well as I know Chris Newman, the late Kevin Kohler and the Ovingham Footy Club. I also reiterate my words, " the Committee of O.F.C have made some poor choices of coaches in the past" .
Whilst you're coming clean via a PM to me, let the footy world know some of your past history, that could be good too!

ps. you say they sacked you, they must have had a reason 'cause good coaches are hard to find

I hope that heather does swallow her pride and that the committee realise that a two side club is generally socially more cohesive and stronger than a very low grade a grade side that is around the mark. I could never understand why ovingham's committee were happy to play low after doing well in 2000 & 2001 in div 8 and 7.
I'm coaching uni's c2 side this year after coaching div 8 and c1 the last few years and looking forward to the challenge that modbury, shoc and others will present.
Yes, I also coached the blacks div 8 2000 side and ended up with your boots post the grand final.

Hi Benno u dont no me but i remember u from 04,sounds like u no what your on about with the ovingham f c having done a great job with them in 04 and your team eventhough undeafeted was always well behaved and never bigheaded.Heather as u said was just outstanding for the club in all aspects for many years, but i`d also heard from a few players and former coachs that she was very hard to work with and it was her way or the highway. But as u said the club is bigger than the individual, and it would b good if she could just get on with it and come out and surport her son and the club which shes loved for 40 years.Do u no the new coach?Do u still no if any of the 2000 to 05 players r still around heard Klompy,Levi,Rinno and a few others r all out there training?

Thanks Wattle,
I do know a few guys who played under Newman last year and they all rate him highly.I think it's wrong for people to start bagging a bloke who's taken on a job at a club that has been poorly run for a long time.I bet they don't know the ins and outs.Sounds like they're just sticking up for Heather.
The boys I know at Ovies tell me that not too many are left from the 2004 premiership side but I'll tell you this,if Klompy,Levi and Rhino are coming back then Ovies will have a bloody strong side this year.I coached all three in 04 and they are top players as well as great blokes.Klompy kicked 108 goals last year and played in Wingfields Div 7 res premiership side, and Rhino had a great year playing A grade for Yorketown.Klompy knows what he's on about and if he rates Chris Newman then he must be a pretty good coach. The club really needs people who can take it forward, as a one team club can only survive for so long.Finn could'nt understand why the club was still so low after having some success a few years back but I can tell you it's because the club has always been poorly run.A coach can only do so much when you've got muppets like Dan Nagle, and then Dan Pye as presidents.I applaud Locky Sandford for taking on the job. He's a true club man and deserves better than to be kicked out of the house by Heather because he made the hard decisions needed to take the club forward.I'll be following the club closely from Sydney as my brother is playing out there this year. He'll be pretty happy that Klompy and the boys are coming back.Looks like a big year ahead for the Cats.
Cheers choofer.

So its true,Heard klompy had a good year last year kicked a ton and won another flag, though he was kinding me!Word is hes not working as much and is keen to play a grade again. As for Rynno i thought he was playing div 1 at goodies the last few years?Good to hear Barry is still at ovies, did he go with klompy to wingfield as well?It would b good if the club could get some more members and players at the club cos there never seems to b any people around there evertime ive called into your club.Is big Si still around?is he still playing? How much did you get payed for coaching them in 04 and u guys were pretty good, even for div 10 was anyone payed in such a low grade?

To Benno do u no if ovingham r going to go div 7 or have they only got enough for 1 team in c5.I`d say if them boys r coming back then winning div 7 wouldnt b a problem but fielding two teams might b a worry? If u hear from any of them lads can u check the rumour that chris has signed 2 div 1 players who he knows that want to play under him this year?I may even go down for a drink at the club myself to catch up with klompy and them, drove past the other wednesday and there was cricket on,was that them doing something differant or do they just train mondays. How do u think locky will go?heard hes president?Would b a shame if heather didnt hang around to see the club grow, but the club will go on anyway and from what ive heard they have heaps of people jumping aboard to fill all roles.

We should'nt be too hard on Scorpion,he is a Centrals supporter after all. That tends to explain quite a bit.The word is Ovies have signed up a couple of Div 1 players who want to play under Newman, but only if they are in Div 7.No one wants to play C5 and thats why the club cant get any members
